We had our first test fitting last night. I still need wrap her arms, but I wanted to see how everything else was fitting to make some adjustments.

First of all, I want to thank everybody for their contributions to this thread. The photos and suggestions here have been very helpful as I've been putting together a Rey costume for my wife. I'm getting very close to being finished.

In case it might be helpful to anyone here, I put together a full tutorial of the staff I made for my wife. You can view the detailed instructions here:

I did manage to finish the main outfit, and I'm still deciding whether or not to use the bubble gauze fabric or just buy some medical grade gauze. Dyeing everything was a tedious process, especially with the raw silk. Mine came out super purple/red, but what you see in the pic, the pants were made from off-white muslin (a lot smoother than the raw silk). For the dye, I used RIT liquid dye in Taupe, mixed with a little bit of the Pearl Gray.

Finally started on the leather pack and belt.
Got everything cut out and am now in the lengthy process of hammering the holes for stitching it all together.

Hi All! This forum has been AMAZING in crafting my costume.

I wanted to see how many people have used this belt pattern? I think it's going to be a lifesaver but I had some questions.

Here's a basic on the belt.
transition in shape and size on ends are a bit of a guess since I haven't found any good clear pix.
I do know they go down to about 1/2" where they fold back and weave through it's self.

Length can be adjusted to your waist size.

I would suggest looking at your reference and also doing a paper pattern to get everything worked out and to scale.

Looking at some images I'm a bit perplexed about what would be the right hand side of the belt. Using the pattern that division 6 put up I would think the ends would need to be flipped? It seems that the metal buckle/loops are adhered to the side coming around from the backside? Or am I missing something when I look at the images? I know there are so few to tell for sure.

I also have NO idea where this person found these images for Rey, as I can't seem to find them anywhere else, but it shows us very clearly how the wrap dress is actually wrapped.

Thanks again for all the hard work everyone has put in! This is my first attempt ever at any homemade costume and when I started looking at this thread I couldn't believe how detailed something so simple looked!

On the right side of the belt the front straps taper down some and have 2 metal loops.
The back straps taper down, go through the loops, then over one and under (through) the other then they weave through 4 slots in the back of the belt.

Basically your average 2 loop belt.

Those 2 pix of Rey are pretty much everywhere now since they are promo pix.
There are 3 or 4 life size you can get through Fathead Posters.

Hello, Everyone!

I've finally made it all the way through this thread! Thanks for everyone's hard work in researching Rey's costume.

ryanoh and TheLadyNerd, I hope you are both well again soon!

I am working on the costume, too. I used TheLadyNerd's suggestion on the fabric for the body wrap http://www.dharmatrading.com/fabric/viscose-rayon-silk-blend-58-inch-wide.html?lnav=fabric.html. I washed it, and it was still a bit stiff, so I ran it through the dryer which made it nice and soft and flowey, though it lost the crinkles. I am thinking I may have to crunch it and let it air dry or tie it before putting it in the dryer. I have not dyed it yet though. I got white bubble gauze at Joann's for the arm wraps and will probably tea stain them and hand paint the edges. For the boots, though I would love to purchase the real ones, right now I can't afford it, so I went to goodwill and found a $10 pair of boots and a $10 coat that is made of a fabric similar to the boots for covering them. Haven't started that yet.

I was checking out the Halloween costumes online and noticed that Party City had a different version than anywhere else. I picked it up to check it out and took pictures before returning it. This one has the wrap that goes all the way around so you can see how the fabric loops. But they've got the loop on the wrong side. Here, it's on the right, but in all the photos I've seen of her, it's on the left. I know it's a terribly bad copy of the actual costume, but if anyone is interested, here are the pics.

I drew this diagram so I could get the over wrap right. The length is not correct. It is only meant to show the direction of wrapping. If anyone sees anything wrong with this, let me know and I'll fix it.

Yeah that's right.

Ends and loot should be just above the tops of the boot, about 2" using the publicity photos as reference.

I'm not sure if this is going to help this situation or not, but I keep getting messages from people requesting staffs. Unfortunately, I'm unable to do a run of these, which again I'm sorry for getting anyone's hopes up. There's been a lot of messages that I've been unable to respond to, so hopefully those people will see this post here. The one explaining that may have been removed by a moderator because you can't "generate interest' outside of the Project Runs board, so I just wanted to post again and be super clear so nobody ends up waiting on a product that isn't coming.

I'm very sorry, but I won't be doing any kits for this staff.

Everyone's costumes are looking great! I'm so proud of all of you! (And especially to those who've said this is their first costume or first time doing an handmade one. Go you! You're ten shades of awesome for challenging yourselves.)

I'm so behind....alas, money and health have not been kind to me. I'm dearly hoping I can somehow get it down for the premiere. Though I do have one piece secure. My very lovely boyfriend bought the Po-Zu boots for me as I've been busy paying medical bills. So I guess you can saying I'm starting this costume from the ground up? :p (OMG are these shoes COMFY! Seriously, I was not expecting the plush support pad that's inside. It's like walking on memory foam. And the materials are really interesting. As an eco-friendly, sustainable shoe, it's made from natural materials (like the soles are beeswax and cork. How cool is that?!).

Nice! Thanks for those pics! I might go to Party City to see it myself since I'm trying to figure out the right color (so tricky).

Hi everyone, Karen here, first Star Wars costume! Starting to work on my Rey, (hopefully it will be finished by the opening date) I just had a question for everyone about dying since this will be the first time I am dying fabric. Is everyone using the Dhrama dye or would RIT dye be ok? Just curious as to what everyone is using. Thanks for any help!

It would depend on the type of fabric you are dying. If it is cotton RIT works great, if it is Poly the I would use iPoly (available at JoAnn's ), however if it is something more exotic like silk I would get silk based dye at Dharma.
