Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

Scaling something based on a photo and having actual dimensions are two different things. An exact number and a guess. If you like working with guesses by all means go ahead. But I'd much rather have actual numbers. The Fett jetpack is a case of this. Perspective changes dimensions of things and yes you can get close to what the scale is using something known. But even with a ruler next to the object or an object it's prefect. I'm hardly new to any of this nor am I asking for anyone's first born. I didn't think it would be a lot of trouble to help out the community. I'm sorry if it was rude to ask for assistance.

Not impressed.
I made a Fett almost 20 years ago.
Even had folks in the film industry use my molds.

From your first post you've done nothing her but demand information others have spent lot's of time and money to obtain and given nothing in return.
Gimme, gimme gimme.

JJ Griffin;3921094 Regardless of whether Kristen is willing to help me out with measurements said:

Really.
Stealing someone else's time and work so you can make a buck?
How about others taking your work and using it to make money with out your consent.

That sort of attitude gets people banned from the forum.

Pretty sure the person that gave those parts to Kristen is gonna be pissed off when the find out, if they aren't already.

+1

were you able to use the strap from that bag for the backpack straps or did you have to use something else for them?

I reused the shoulder strap. It was the perfect length cut in half, and I kept the attachments that were sewn to the sides of the bag to use as the top attachment points on the backpack.

I will probably eventually replace the hardware. I made all of my own for the backpack by hand bending coat hanger wire. :p Cheap and dirty, and it befits the scavenger way ;)

You really want to make people feel welcome here....not sure if you noticed how appreciative people are but Im pretty sure everyone in this post has thanked you kristen etc.. for their contributions... I have never taken anyones work for granted....I try and pass on any info I have and do so as often as I can....because I havent made any MAJOR contributions to this thread you want to start some sort of contest...I really could care less about what you THINK about me. Maybe had I been concentrating on Rey Id have been able to make a few myself but most of the work seems to have been done (ID'ing parts etc...) Im sure your fett was great 20 years ago...and Im sure its still nice if its around. Im not here to impress anyone. I was simply trying to learn from yall, and give any input where I could....you dont need to publicly try and humiliate people saying learn to this or that. And my first post demanding this or that? REALLY? What did I DEMAND exactly? I ask questions...that arent answered previously....is that not the point of the forum? Im really not trying to start any trouble, just trying to build the best possible Rey for my wife. Ive attempted to learn and gather information from this and any other place. Ive helped others with the things Im versed in (The predators Royce thread). I didnt think asking for dimensions would be such a big deal. Never had anyone on any other forum say get lost figure it out yourself before. Thought we were all here to help eachother out.

Not even sure how to respond to this. Did you ever consider that Kristen would check with her contact to ensure they are okay with her sharing the measurements of the pieces she received? No... I guess you probably did not.

I am not going to waste time or derail an otherwise incredibly constructive thread by getting into a pissing contest with you over who builds replicas or estimates scale better.

I will always be grateful for your many helpful contributions to this thread, but personally I'm done with you.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Rey thread...

After months of scouring, I finally bit the bullet and decided to just model the flashlight for Rey's goggles. It has a cavity inside small enough for one of the tiniest twist flashlights I could source. And it's still 25 lumen, which really packs a punch for it's size!

Gonna do up a prototype tonight... Will post pics if all goes according to plan.

I still think that there is probably more than just the one indent on the side, but since that's all we can see in the pics we have, I guess its just speculation.

Otherwise your model looks good, and Im sure it'll make some Reys happy to be able to buy this ready made from you...(at least those who didn't go the chap stick route) ;)

Stepping out of the lurker shadows with some trepidation...

Figuring things out and working on my own set of greeblies for a Rey cosplay for my daughter. Leather is my thing so I am working on that stuff first. Goggles, pack, cuff etc.

I can hardly wait to paint this one up. I have chain for it, but the links turned out to be too small. They are 3.5mm x 6 mm. Any one know where to get larger ladder chain?

Peace :)

Indeed, the dying part of this is tricky. I ended up using the Pearl Grey RIT Dye, very lightly on an almost white/beige cotton. It def. turned out more purple/grey, so I then dyed it in a bath of hot black tea (PG Tips to be exact, heh), which brought out the brown/tan a bit more. You kind of have to just experiment. :)

I didn't use any grey dye for any of my outfit. My secret weapon is TAUPE... which as we all know is a tan/grey mix, with a touch of purple. What I did for the head wrap was to mix up about 3 gals of hot water in the sink and dumped in about 1/4 of the bottle of liquid RIT Taupe. I swished it around for several minutes, until the colour was a bit darker than I actually wanted. then i just took it out, rinsed it with cold, wrung it out and tossed it in the dryer.

Man, people are so testy lately...

Finished the prototype of Rey's flashlight this morning~!

The paint and weathering was a slap-job, but you get the idea. Again, this works off a simple twist method-- twist the front half to turn the light on, and twist it the opposite way to turn it off. No fuss, no muss! :)

Think we'll tackle the "chain canister" next...!

BTW for those of you searching for the right hardware for the chain, have you tried browsing through McMaster-Carr yet? I have yet to find a piece of hardware I couldn't find on their site.

I bought a few LEDs to try and get that cree LED to build around....might be able to get the domed tip with the right LED

The "lens" is strange. It was yellow at Celebration but obv when it turns on on screen it is white light. Not sure if the Celebration one was a dummy/stunt, or the lighting made it appear that color, or what. I'm not terribly concerned about it either way.

Hi,

Completed all the prep work on the "chain greeblie" today. Lots of sanding! I find that for round objects, nail files that have foam interiors like these (they bend) are very useful for basic smoothing. Then I follow up with fine grit sandpaper. I am going to be making my very first silicone mold of this piece and cast it in resin. Then I will roughen up, paint and weather the resin piece. I am so excited. I am taking the opportunity of making my daughter's Rey cosplay to learn some different skills I've never tried before. That is the thing that I love most about making props, every project has different challenges.

:)
