Limited Run Rey Goggles (Made to Order) from The Force Awakens

Thanks!

This new stitching will be used on this run and all those after. I did the pair in this picture this morning (I chose one of the run #4 goggles at random) and now that I'm so pleased with the result, I'll be doing it to the rest of the run.

So when you get yours, they will have the new stitching :D

it's not really that different... I suspect once it's al weathered it won't look drastically different. But.. in the interest of always striving to be just that much more accurate, I weather on....!

Love the new stitching.... I am happy to recommit, I am happy to pay a deposit, I am happy to pay in full, maybe ask for full payment one run in advance of the build run to give yourself a small buffer, you are the General of the Rey army :cool :cool :cool

Hmmmm.... there's an idea.

I had been waiting till materials were in hand before asking for money (i generally like to do that, as it avoids nasty delays) but I suppose I could do.

Just as an aside, i never doubted you would still be in. :)

Mostly people who flake have never done a run. Stuff happens and we all get that, but when 25% of a run drops out its because they think it's no big deal. They really don't understand how painstaking a run can be, especially something like this which is all labor. It's not like a CNC, 3D printer or laser cutter where you get some downtime while stuff is cutting/ being built by a machine. Plus what if you order 7 runs worth of material and only needed 5 runs worth because people flaked? That means you're out alot of money. Finally, doing a run like this is a service to the community, it eats up time that you could be working on your own builds, and making the same thing 50 times is like watching the same movie 500 times in a row!

Rant over, I'll happily pay a deposit, I'm definitely in, and appreciate all your hard work!

I know you do, tomm1999....and I appreciate the fact that you not only stuck by me once, but twice now as you're a repeat customer. That is like Gold to me. :thumbsup

Never fear... I shall weather on.

To that end, let's have a look at that latest stitching prototype... ALL FINISHED:

This is what you all will be getting from now on!

And just to address those from run#3 who are feeling a bit let down that they didn't get the latest version, here's a shot of it next to a run#3 pair (which i was so proud of at the time I'd made them that i'd kept them for myself:

I know that you all know it's the nature of the beast that as time goes on (hopefully) a product gets better and better. In this case, I pour my heart into each pair that i build because when you open your box, i want you to love them instantly!

I think the best part of following this thread is not just the anticipation and excitement of these goggles, but the way that Kristen keeps refining her technique and working through the various problems that pop up. I'm wildly satisfied with my pair (run 3) and it's been a real treat to wear them when I run errands!
Thank you for putting so much into this, Kristen, and for sticking with this even when it was tough.

Love it, Kristen.

If you trimmed the top of the thin outer leather layer on this prototype just a hair they'd be a near-perfect stand-in for that last original TFA comparison pic you posted. Way to take it up another notch!

I'm loving the revisions! Your dedication to accuracy and quality of your work is really wonderful. I'm looking forward to seeing these in person and having it in my collection. Ready when you are ;).

First page updated!

I have yet to hear from darthfoster regarding payment. I shall give until the end of tommorow to hear from you, and if I haven't then i shall move you to the end of the runs, and joshimus will advance into the last slot on the current run, provided they make payment when the run is ready to ship.

I also am still awaiting payment from Eric Richardson. I'll need that by the middle of this week, as I plan to ship out Thursday 7/21 or Friday 7/22.

We're getting close!!! Here's where we are at with the stitching:

This is the new stitching pattern being done... in the true spirit of Rey! No fancy tools....just what I've got lying about. In this case, a large nail LOL.

....And all stitched! Next it's time to weather the goggle bases, and then affix these skins to them. Then hard parts, and final weathering!

Recommitting here. And I have no problem doing a deposit. It's fair to require that.

Personally, I can pay a deposit or in full at any time. Just let me know.

In general, I think a business model like the one we are doing for our new fence is the most fair. A third deposit, a third at work start, and a third at completion. I realize that for something like this, that's a bit of a pain, but I mention it because there's a reason people do that. It's fair to both parties.

You're not being unreasonable.

Also, the new goggles look great! The difference is subtle, but very nice!

Does anybody want my goggles from run 3? In case you need them quick? Just thought I'd ask, kristen still have them xD I rather like the stitching on run 4, so if anybody is up for swapping x)

Thank you, @jackwabbit!
@Timbuktu..... due to some shifting requests, you're moving up! You're in the next run, now. :)

.....AAAAAAAnd my flashlight mold is SHOT! :angry

Looks like I'll have just enough to finish this run (good timing, i suppose) and then I'll have to make a new mold. Now I'm wondering how long it can realistically be before my clips mold gives out. i'd better keep a spare pull of those aside just in case.

I'm new to this casting stuff... but I'm learning very quickly that molds can go in an instant.

Don't fear, everyone... this might mean a week's delay in between the current run and the start of run #5...but that should be all. Then we shall be back in the game.
