i work with customs alot at the airport. if they had opened the box, you would expect to find customs tape wrapped all around. they open what they want, but they
usually make it very know it was them that damaged any package.

That's why I think it is stolen. No custom tape or letter or notice. Just regular packing re-taped. What a mess!
