Replica "Independence Day" ID4 Alien (full size static prop) W.I.P.

Re: Independence day alien exo skeleton, new concept,Pic's added 12/10/09.

Ok, since starting this eons ago and then deciding to go a different route with the build, then decided to shelve it for a while. I've decided to re-do it all over again, going back to the original "Independence Day" Alien exo skeleton as I really love the look of it. So last week I made a start on the face and hood using my trusted method of cardboard templates, then fibreglassing over it to create the basic structure for the head piece. I've still got some work to do on the hood, trimming up and scaling the back of the head. Once I have finished the main structure I'll then apply contact adhesive over the entire piece then I'll cover this with cloth then add a couple of coats of latex, which I'll then paint up and detail etc. Has anyone got a couple of good clear side shots of the Exo skeleton from the film as I am trying to see the curvature of the hood and side details. If anyone can help me find images I can use I would be very grateful. Thanks guys!

It looks a little weird as I managed to salvage the original face piece and made the hood section using different hardener in the glass resin.

Been busy with different parts of this build ie designing the stilts for the lower legs and feet, the rear hood of the head section fan work inside the hood, face structure etc. I have finally completed the face of the alien, now I just have to cast this up and mold it onto the fiinished skull, hopefully I should have this completed today. I am then moving onto completing the entire head detail work before moving onto the latex work for the skin. It is being a little tricky as this thing in the film doesn't have a waist line as such, I have made the upper sections larger to make the waist line look thinner ( I aint huge myself, 30 inch waist) so in theory it should look the part ( I HOPE?) Anyway I have taken a couple of photo's of the front sculpt to show you guys what it looks like now before I start to cast it up, hope you like?

I've done a little bit more on the face and hood sections today, got the shape now as it was a real nightmare to get right, but I think I'm there now? Just adding the material to the fibreglass so the latex will bond to form an over skin which I can the colour and detail etc. I've also done the under structure which the entire head section can now be attached too and also the lower abdominal area. Still ome smoothing out to do and minor refining but it's really starting to look like the ID4 Alien in my opinion, whats your thoughts guys?

INCREDIBLE work! Certainly a very unique costume to replicate as I have not seen anyone else do it. Kudos to you - ID4 is one of my all-time favorate sci-fi movies.

Update guys: Still battling with this project, so please bare with me. I'm now working on the chest and lower ab area, arms, back and pelvic area. Boy have I chosen a difficult costume project, but I aint giving in, "I'll not disappear into the night, I'll not give in without a fight" . I've also started to refine parts of the head ie defining skull, ridge lines, eyes, front facial areas etc. The waist has proven a diffcult area to adapt as in the film IT AINT GOT ONE! So I have done my best to make it as tiny as possible and bulked up the top areas. My plan is to get all the basic areas to the costume completed then concentrate on refining each area once everything is to hand. I estimate the total height will be around nine feet with stilts once completed so he's gonna be a big beasty as it now stands at eight feet on the Mannequin without the stilts. I have a query regarding sound effects for this project guys, I'd love to add an MP3 audio effect of the ID4's shrill/high pitched shreak as in the film,I've tried online but cannot find anything that comes close to the sound immited by the captured alien at Area51, can any of you guys possibly help me with this idea as it would add that wow factor to the costume at con's etc. Sorry for the lack of updates and pic's as I have been concentrating on the build but hopefully I'll have more of a proper update and photo's at the weekend.
