Remakes........enough already! ARTHUR

Why can't they continue the franchise? Why not "Son of Arthur"? Brand would make a great Authur Jr.

Moore WAS Arthur. All Brand will be doing is trying to imitate Moore.

Exactly what I thought, It's not like they couldn't have gotten Liza to reprise her role and be Arthur Jr's Mom, and have HER cut him off for being too much like his father. Seriously this would have worked well, and I would have gone for it.

I don't know why people criticize movies based on books, that's been done for ages and some of the best movies of all time have been based on books. Two movies that are pretty popular here were based on books; Jaws & Jurassic Park. Then you have classics like The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind, both also based on books.
Agreed. I see no issues with book adaptions. Many of my favorite movies are just that.

Comic book movies are nice too, when they are done in a serious way to adapt the feel and heart of the comic book series or graphic novel to the screen. If they just do it like it's just a pointless movie... the outcome will also just be... a pointless movie... instead of trying to make it awesome and not kill the story.

In general, I am not in favor of remakes, although I thought NuBattlestar Galactica was better than the old and recently saw The Experiment, which was a remake of Das Experiment, and while I generally like original foreign films better than the Hollywoodized American remakes, I thought The Experiment was very well done and actually better than the original.

Yeah... the american versions of foreign films often LACK exactly what made the original great. Interesting to hear about one that was successful.

Personally, I liked Point of No Return better than the French version Nikita. Yes, so... sue me.

Looking at that list, I think it's rather easy to say that a "franchise" picture is not an original idea ... realistically, look at some of the franchises. Pirates of the Caribbean may have existed previously, but in a form that has fairly bare narrative suggestion. Anything that could even be considered in the assignment of "original" idea had to be invented from scratch by the writers Ted and Terry, which they did for all three movies. I'd say that is more of an "original idea" than some of the so called "original ideas" which play more heavily on established narrative devices thinly veiled behind something "fresh." (HANCOCK and THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW?! We're really holding those up as a victory of original ideas?)

I don't know about "old as hell", but 65 is closing in on the grim reaper and she looks amazing for 65. Hell, she would look amazing for 55. We can all hope we are in that shape at that age.

have to agree. The pics of her in a bathing suit a year or so ago were damn good. She's in great shape for 65

This movie might be kind of funny so I'll take the wife to see it, but where is all the creativity in hollywood? What are they going to remake next? Top Gun...Jaws...or how about Goonies...

Gilligan's Island with the cast from Jershey Shore

Honestly, I never even heard of Russell Brand until the Kate Perry wedding thing, now he's all over the place and there's no escape!

I think Russell Brand is hilarious in Forgetting Sara Marshall. He was the best part of that movie. I love Get Him To The Greek.

It shows they work cheap. Isn't he also in that odd Easter bunny movie as the rabbit too?

I read recently about a possible remake of Time Bandits. That sent a shiver down my spine.

yeah i read this too, also The Creature from the Black Lagoon is in talks to be remade

Russel Brand is egotistical, arrogant and not funny at all, in my home when he appears on TV the chanell gets changed, i cant stand him and boyyyyyyyyyyyyyy he was Ugly MF too :lol

I worked about 7 days in Arthur. It was weird. RB was improvising all this stuff and no one was laughing except the young director who kept telling us how genius B was. It was so strange. I just didn't think he was funny at all. He was also very creepy. Saying really rude things to the girls on set. People in Hollywood just put up with it since U need a job. I will go see it to see if I made it in, but wonder if they can make him funny in editing!
