Redtogusa's Amazing Spiderman Build. McL34Ns pattern. (update 16/10/12, 99% done!)

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

In other news I'm quite disappointed atm. I could'nt resist so I got suited up this evening to get a good idea what it'll look like. Problem is I look more 'doughy' round my middle than I thought I would. :facepalm
I wanted to post a pic but I'm hesitant now. I'm not large by any means but this costume shows up everything.

Spandex is VERY unforgiving. It's similar to how when you see yourself in normal light you think, "hey I've got pretty nice skin" then you look in a mirror under fluorescent lighting and you're like "Holy Hell! I thought that scar faded 15 years ago!" Spandex just loves to catch every inch of skin you have.

You might want to take a look at dance belts. They're what you should wear under spandex anyway to keep your "business" in order. ;)

Some of them have a higher waist and could help to just smooth out the lines a bit.

There's a reason they usually make actors wear muscle suits under these things... :lol

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

Old costumers trick: Duct tape your middle section like a corset if all else fails.

I just started doing 75 crunches a night, hopefully Ill have my 6 pack back by October

Why did I not think of this?! You've saved my day......gonna hurt though taking it off, gonna rip a lot of hairs out but the pain is worth it for the cause. :lol

Since you made me feel so good here's one pic, plus this one doesn't show my belly too much :

My legs show through the lycra a bit atm but I'm working on that, will wear something underneath or maybe mist the inside of the suit with a blue airbrush paint, dunno yet.

Excellent tip, just looked them up on fleabay, will deffinately help.

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

Airbrushing the inside of the suit won't help prevent showing your skin, this occurs when the material is stretched quite a bit, I think wearing a blue undersuit would be better, is the suit very thin? I have a Spidey4fun suit and don't have this problem, yes the color wash out in areas were there's alot of stretch but not that bad.

Now there is something rarely talked about or admitted. All the friggin work it is to actually get into a spidey suit!!

Believe me bro, I know your pain. I've lost more than 30 pounds for this costume and I've never ever been truly 100% satisfied with how a Spidey suit looks on me. I mean the suits are always great but the mental image and my expectation of what Spidey should look like is always quite unachievable, at least for me. Especially with this new spidey who is EXTRA-slim!

As nick put it, Spandex is very unforgiving but I recommend getting a nice compression shirt and shorts to tighten everything up. You'll do great! Hey, you already fit in it and that's a big part of the struggle! Now its just about fine tuning :)

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

I recommend the Adidas techfit undershirt with clima-cool. That way you don't have to rip your hair out with duct tape! And it'll help contain a lot of that sweat (especially around the armpits and back) and keep you cool since it gets a little toasty after a while:

Looks GREAT dude!!! Yeah, I apologize about how transparent the fabric is. I've stopped using that printer for this reason. I would recommend a black underarmor shirt underneath, that's what El Fett uses and it works pretty well. Just cover any logos with black tape or paint them.

EDIT he beat me to it.

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

This build is soooo freakin' amazing!!!!

For your clear coat, have you thought of using MonsterMaker's PermaWet? It's a flexible clear coat used for latex masks in the horror industry. It may look glossy right after you put it on, but that can be fixed with some talcum powder.

Sorry if this has been detailed in another thread...I promised I've used the search button like a good boy...For the red parts are you putting Tulip paint down then pressing the honeycomb texture into it? You're doing this directly on the suit or doing it on wax paper then gluing it on?

I've got an ASM dye-sub suit already sewn and was thinking of giving it this treatment. Thanks much.

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

Thanks for the advice El Fett mate. TASM look is especially hard to pull off as you said. A thin but toned physique is hard to achieve.
Thanks for the tip on the undershirt too. You look good in yours. That's not meant to sound like I'm making a pass at you I swear, I am a happily married man, but I can appreciate a good looking person regardless of gender. ;P

I'll shut up now.

Ah McL34N thanks man, I hope I'm doing your excellent work justice. No worries about the fabric, it's fun trying to find solutions to these things, keeps my brain ticking over.

Simply the Tulip paint just goes straight on, out of the bottle, by hand, like squeezing toothpaste, over the honey comb pattern. As if your drawing.

Suits looking great!!!

We all need to meet at a con or better yet some random Starbucks in the middle of nowhere when everyones finished them.

Re: Redtogusas Amazing Spiderman Costume using McL34Ns pattern.

EL Fett,

Again that suit is fantastic and you do it justice 110%, did you get my PM?

I think I might be a little too bulky for it, I'm better for the Raimi version but again the design of this new suit has sleeker lines.

Wait...so you're not pressing a texture pattern into the paint. You're individually drawing honeycomb shapes? That would take forever! Surely, I'm not understanding correctly. What am I missing here?
