Glad to see you're back on Lee!

I can't seem to get out of a slump either, and I'm just building kits for the most part - not building something from scratch.

The ESB at-st metal armature keeps taunting me though, so I might have a go at that soon.
 
Missed you bud, the RT's belly is lookin great, I can really appreciate how long that plating will take you, just don't go bonkers doing it, we want you to build other models as well so we can all drool over them lol.
Who cares if it's not canon mate, looks the job to me and who else has one in their collection outside the archives?.
Bring it on dude and did I say it's great to see you building again!.

Lee, I'm so glad to see you back on here and on this project I hardly know where to start. That is bloody beautiful work! I got so into your build that I've hardly been bothering to check the SS section lately without your stuff to look forward to (ack sounds bad I know - Guy's been doing amazing work and so's everyone, but I was just obsessed over the Transport).

That's it, I'm dusting off my project and workspace TONIGHT and getting back in the saddle myself...let's see if I can build a new vacformer over the weekend...
 
Thanks to all you guys, your comments make me pretty happy fella's, as some of you know, ive been way off the boil, but slowly working at this build, and getting some good feedback.....yeah, ive found a bit of fun and love over the past week or so lol.

Nils, man, kitting this bird, id never want to think of it, its INSANE, magnify the difficulties in Slave One by ten, and you may be close.
Main thing for me, would be the hull, so much overhang in the basic form, then, the thin overhang of the hull plating.....id challenge even Frank to pull this one off :lol then again, Frank is nuts enough to maybe try it lol.

Anyhoo, been working on finishing up both my TESB pods, and while doing that i primed up a few of the cargo boxes......niiiiiiice, cant wait to get the full set painted, but itll be a while till they are applied to the belly on this beast!

Fantastic job Lee. That plating looks like a real brain busting job to get accurate. You've nailed the whole thing perfectly. Great job. Painting it up will be a joy I'm sure.

Paint, hell yeah, but again, not easy, she seems to be so many differing hues, on the belly, and the actual hull, lots of warm tones akin to the Falcon?

Yeah, looks like your basic warm grey or cream shades for base and then a lot of shading and gunge on top of that, right?
 
Thats how i see it Martyn, maybe the same Grime/white hue as the falcon, with tons of masked off, and free hand grey shaded panels, then, top that off with all the tiny paint squares too, looks even a challenge to paint her lol.

Yeah Lee. I'm going to go for Floquil colours on mine, cos I love them. Antique White base probably? But I think there are even some near-purples or mauves in there in places, it's probably lighting but I might try to copy it.

BTW I didn't manage the one-weekend speed vac build, but did finish the platen last night, hope to finish the thing up and build a frame next weekend, maybe get it to the trial stage. Woohoo!
 
No dude, he's right. I said the same early on but I've built vacform bucks for one myself now and I'm getting a good feel for the form of the thing. It's the thin plating that's a big issue, not only around the edge but around the cutouts in the hull, which are complex little buggers. I've done a little bit of mouldmaking in the past, but I've struggled with where to put the mould separation lines and pour stubs, plus you'd want a really big pressure pot to force resin into those thin edges. Demoulding without breaking them would be a nightmare.

All that said, I do have ideas for all this and still want to try experimenting on it. Got some waste silicone lying around anyway, may as well use it up. But I'm not expecting much in results and I doubt I can produce work worth actually kitting in the first place, so it'll just be for my own amusement.
 
Found some screen caps of the front end of the transports from ROTJ. I haven't seen any reference like this before.

I thought I had a hi def image like this but can't seem to find it.

Although not terribly clear, they give some idea of the layout of the cargo box area underneath. And the layout seems to be chaos...hope it might help a little anyway.
