Niel,
I know you keep saying you've tried but it really isn't that hard. If you hold the can about 12" away from what you are spraying and apply pressure to the nozzle before you get to the piece you are spraying and spray accross the object in a smooth right direction movement then release the pressure and do the same to the left. Give it a light spray..... STOP wait 15 mins then do it again and repeat until covered. It's all about patience and going slow.
If you do this your paint won't bleed into the tape as it won't be wet enough to do so. Also when you are masking parts and cutting the tape to shape on your piece make sure you use a brand new sharp scalpel.
If it's not working the way you are doing it now just try this method. You might be pleasantly surprised.
