QMx Mal gun preview

Hey gang, I thought the RPF should be the first to see the Mal Gun ad from Quantum Mechanix. As you can see, the original prop was only weathered slightly, compared to the way it looked in Firefly. I can't wait to get this baby into my "Serenity display" at home.

Yes, but will it be BENT, like the original prop. :D

Actually, by the time we got to it, it was perfectly straight.

We were told that, later during production, they added more screws to secure the barrel better.

We are doing the straight, "more screwed" version. :lol

LOL, awesome.

Looks nice to me. I think the price is fair, as Phil offered his Firefly 'kit' (cast from original) unfinished etc for $100 or so - (good price I thought). So another $150 for finishing/plating/metal bits etc seems about right to me.

I for one would love to have one, but so far its a US only release as the site won't accept intl. orders.

One question I have about the Mal pistol that I hope will be covered in the "future" info on the website...

Will it feature any moving parts?. Removeable magazine?. etc?.

I know Mal's pistol didn't have alot of moving parts, but hopefully we will at least be able to pull the trigger and go bang.

Well, despite my initial reaction to the way the pistol looks, I bit. I pre-ordered the the Serenity pistol and the money pack. For something that I've wanted so badly for so long, I'll take the risk. How this order goes will determine whether I continue shopping with them in the future.

I wonder how long it will be before we see someone make a mod for the QMx Serenity pistol to convert it into the Firefly version? Soon, I hope... Much rather the Firefly version.

Speaking of, does anyone know why Universal doesn't license Firefly?

Since it's only plated resin, I would wager there won't be any trigger-pulling. But you're still allowed to yell "Bang" if you want. :p

From what I understand, Fox hated the series, and cancelled it, but they are unwilling to give up the rights to it's marketing. I was also given to understand that to be a typical Fox procedure. At this point, it's probably more about saving face than anything else. If they let go of it, and it becomes huge, it will be yet another bullet in the gun aimed at their indifference, and incompetence towards Firefly.

Heya Guys it looks great.

Just PLEASE make sure that I get my pre-orders registered... international ordering wasn't available on the site so I've sen y'all some messages.

Universal doesn't own the rights for Firefly, Fox does. That's part of why everything in the movie is slightly different.

Also, I have said it before, I still don't see people are thinking Mal's pistol was bent, the screen grab I have seen only shows an optical illusion of it being bent in my opinion.

Read QMX Steve's post...sounds like it was bent to me.

Steve's post doesn't confirm that it was ever bent, just that it was straight when they got to it...which doesn't mean it was bent before. Also he mentions extra screws for securing the barrel, they aren't visable in that photo of the actual prop though. All the ones I see in that pic are there in the Firefly version, unless they are hidden.

At any rate, I've not seen any pics that show it definitively bent...that's all beside the point cause it's still a damn cool prop. :)

The Mal gun pictured above is a real firing hero filming prop, which was rebuilt from how it appeared in Firefly. The website will have all sorts of this kind of information soon.

Hope that helps, Jason

Is this a physical prototype or a CG'd prototype?

When is it supposed to ship?

You know what I like about this stuff?
'Made in the USA.'
[/b]

Hey, ya noticed.

Well, we are a company full of prop makers. With that, we want to be involved with production as much as humanly possible.

We plan to manufacture in the states when we can. This allows us to Shepard production every step of the way. Proud parents and all...

We're headed out in a week or two to check out the Carnelian that will be used for the Dracula rings. We'll also be going over the production schedule for the Mal pistol.

It's a tremendous luxury knowing we don't have an ocean between us and our product. We can visit our production facilities at will giving us the ability to stay on top of a number of issues that tend to prove problematic for the replica industry.
