Whether or not they're technically "undead", I think this still qualifies as a "zombie" game. Change the enemies all you want, but if it plays like a zombie game, then it's a zombie game.
I'm mildly interested in this, but more out of curiosity to see how it comes out rather than excitement about playing it. There have been too many of these "game-changing" and "genre-defining" games that set out to do something "totally unique and amazing", and when the game comes out, it ends up being exactly like every other game out there.
Take Dead Island, for example. Everyone got super-pumped about the game after that first trailer came out (you know the one I mean), and when the game actually launched, it turned out that the only thing unique about the game was the setting. Aside from the fact that it took place in a tropical environment, largely during broad daylight, it ended up being just another zombie game, kind of a mix of Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil.
I'm afraid that this game will end up being the same way. Okay, so you've got a partner, which turns the game into a full-game escort quest, which people traditionally hate with a passion. They talk about the development of a relationship between these two characters, but I think that will end up being done entirely through cutscene, and you won't be able to actually influence the relationship in gameplay. And I think the gameplay itself will be pretty straightforward.. in this case, Uncharted with zombies.
Now, if they really do end up doing something totally different, I'll be first in line to pick this one up. But right now, I don't have my hopes up that this will be anything special at all.
