Prometheus (Post-release)

Size isn't the only detail that's different when comparing the two. Look at where it's head is placed. It's almost on it's chest given the location of it's shoulders. Or what about the length of it's arms?

It's a pity that the nice biomechanical look of the set was the one thing Ridley wanted gone for Prometheus.

I can live with the fact that he streamlined the look of the chamber in Prometheus, this version was functional unlike the one on Archeron and needed to be a little "cleaner" for want of a better word. I guess technically SRS had to make the engineers smaller as we actually interact with them this time but theres still plenty of film time left to address the differences if its important to the continuing story. Anythings possible and Im open to anything. It may end up going full circle, back to full on Giger.

I love Prometheus but I still can't buy that there's an engineer in that suit from Alien.

All we know is that its possibly a Thousand or so years older than the Prometheus one, this would explain the different "look" of the two Engineers but the size differences and the ones pointed out by Jeyl suggest an evolutionary change in them also, good enough for a bit of back story I think.

You see, I never once thought of the original Space Jockey's room as looking "non-functional", because it was 'alien'. The kind of stuff we don't understand because we've never seen anything like it before. Who are we to determine what is functional on that ship, especially when the only sign of life could very well be a living part of the ship? Maybe the whole ship in and of itself was alive and didn't need that much external input outside of the space jockey itself. And these theories all stem from the fact that it's been dead for many many years. Who knows what it could have been like it was working/living at 100%. I sure wasn't thinking "There must have been 3D holograms all over the place!". Why would you need holograms around you when your display is only two inches away from your face?

Sure, but you have to admit that whole scene was breathtaking, until I saw early pictures and the trailer etc, would never had expected it. Thought it was an interesting balance with the rest of the Engineer tech look. I dont want to see boiled eggs for switches everywhere if you know what I mean.

What I meant by non functional was that the ship on Archeron was a wreck and going nowhere, the Prometheus Engineer ship actually worked, didnt mean non functional in an esthetic sense.

I was going to respond individually to some of the posts, but this is the internet so who the **** cares, right? I'll just say that I'm continually amazed by the stunted imaginations on display in this thread and elsewhere. The gulf between what Ridley Scott and his colleagues can do on a bad day and what all the naysayers here are collectively capable of is immeasurable. And to think that people still bother to make art just so amoebas who will never accomplish anything of value can spend their lives picking it apart on message boards ...

And folks here thought I was bad.

Your attitude is on the line of trolling. I don't think it's appropriate to come in here to post about an off-topic discussion regarding users and say how amoebas they are and how they will never accomplish anything of value. I for one would have liked to have seen what you had to say in response to other users' posts because I 'DO CARE' about discussing Prometheus. Good thoughts, bad thoughts, I welcome them. But you're not doing yourself any favors complaining about people who post on the internet just so you can make a point that you don't like people who complain on the internet.

lmfao you mad bro

he said something (that I 100% agree with) that hit one of your nerves and you cry Troll?

This isn't a thread about people who pick on works of art. This is a thread ABOUT a work of art. When someone comes into the discussion and starts labeling others as "amoebas who will never accomplish anything of value" I don't think they're being respectful to the discussion.

Please extend respect to others. Discussion and debate may lead to heated disagreement; approach them in a civil manner, showing respect for the other person's point of view.

I thought I was actually having a respectful discussion about Prometheus and trying to be respectful to the individual I was in discussions with. I'm not telling them that they're stupid for disagreeing with my opinion and I certainly am not telling them that they're wasting their time and are a low form of life.

If you agree 100% with what he said Id also love to know why you would even bother to come here let alone hitch your horse to his wagon.

Are you mistaking me for someone that doesnt like Prometheus? because that's how I'm reading your post.

Now maybe you might see how irratating nickpickers are, he was voicing his frustrations on the attitudes of some whining members, sure he may have stretched the limits a little but hey, let the guy have a vent and let it be.

problem is he hit a nerve with you, or his post made you feel like you had to explain yourself. thats not his problem, that's yours. you can ignore him, or report him, but to turn around and say he's on the line of trolling is just pathetic. I'm trired of people being called trolls just because they have voiced an opinion.

it happens in almost every thread.

another example is the robocop thread, that is for movie news, updates and information in the upcomming Robocop movie right? Nope, it's a "lets ***** and moan about every ****ing detail thats put in front of our eyes and lets not have any form of constructive conversation"

So, call me a Troll, I honestly don't care, I'll even be proud to say I am one if it means sticking up for something I like/love. But I will admit right now, that the constant whining and complaining that happens on this site is just plain pathetic. So i'll quote ProfKSergeev agian "The gulf between what Ridley Scott and his colleagues can do on a bad day and what all the naysayers here are collectively capable of is immeasurable. The warning from the LV-426 ship has been broadcasting for a very long time already, by the time of Alien.

And, questionably canonicity aside, there's reference on the Blu-ray special features to the beacon, with one line stating that David himself is aware of it.

From the text accompanying the Quite Eye video - As fate would have it, their interest in Zeta 2 Reticuli has proven to be mutually beneficial....My science division's own long range scans have recently detected a faint almost imperceptible signal emanating from one of the lesser moons in that system. And contrary to the findings of Shaw, which target LV-223, our findings suggest the point of origin could actually be the moon LV-426.
Per standard procedure, we will embed a David 8 unit with the crew...But only David will know about 426 and will ensure the rest of the crew learn nothing about the transmission we've recently discovered until the time is right.

Some of my best friends dont like Prometheus.:lol

Well pay attention to this one, I find what the prof said to be a load of .... and I find your defence of it an even higher pile of .... no need to read between the lines on that one.

The profs particular pile of crap was directed at me and anyone else who just wants to exchange a few ideas as much as it was to Jeyl. The profs was the most venemous of this particular brand of shouting down thats very popular here and its laughable. Im no stranger to this sort of thing, if you have ever looked at the Paradise thread you might learn something. Jeyl is totally justified to make any comment about Prometheus in a thread that is generally about PROMETHEUS,threads specific to more of them are another story though. If you find it a waste of time just keep scrolling till you find something worth contributing to coz all your bringin to this is ....

Just caught up with the SRS commentary, very interesting stuff and he was very enthusiastic through the whole thing which is a bonus, get more that way. Was very excited to hear that he wants to start work on the second movie straight away, then move on to a third and "If we`re clever about it, see if we can go further" comment.

Near the end when the Prometheus is about to ram the croissant, and the impact countdown graphic comes up, SRS goes, "Oh look, see that, that was in Alien" That and all the other references he makes to it. Love a man with a sense of occasion.

Well, I finally saw it. I was really hoping for the best (really wanted to like it). I went in with lowered expectations due to the comments I've read here and elsewhere. My fears (even with lowered expectations) were realized. After I digested what I had just seen an image popped into my head -- swiss cheese -- deli thin, bland and full of holes. I am not trying to be clever, it literally popped into my head after seeing this movie.

It was evident that Ridley and Co. had laid out some marks to hit, but then rushed too quickly to hit a few of them -- hurry up over here now quickly go over there, oh forget about that one over there. This was interjected with by what seemed tacked on "must haves".

I felt no connection to any character in the film (hollow shells), I therefore had no interest in what happened to them. I don't blame the actors (which were fine), but what they had to work with.

They seemed to tack on the whole alien horror aspect to what should have been a higher level of story (they chickened out big time here). They opted for utterly forgettable teenage fluff rather than potential timeless masterwork.

The fatal flaw for me was the predictability of just about the whole thing (in a cringing sort of way). Ridley (and committee) really phoned this one in and it shows.

The only saving grace was what the production designers gave us to look at -- eye candy.

Rating: Regrettably forgettable. :cry
