Project Mercury Launch Complex and Atlas rocket

Today I worked on the attachment points for the open-web trusses. I started by laminating some styrene.

Which I then sawed, filed, and sanded into shape.

And glued in place.

Then I turned my attention on the trusses themselves and made another little jig to keep these "fingers" aligned.

Looks amazing. I'm always jealous of folks who can make styrene look so good, I need to make I-beams for a Donkey Kong model and it's a nightmare.

So... This isn't one of those projects someone builds in their basement only to discover it's too big to get out the door?

DaveG, it does kind of look like Tri-X, doesn't it? Guess I'd better get used to seeing it in black and white since that's how we're shooting.

Stevielewis, thanks!

Now, Day 2

Scott Carpenter, his wife Rene, and Chubby Checker (not pictured) test the service tower's stability.

And I thought that my Space Station was big;) Love the details and the work involve making that model! The B&W shots makes it even more "vintage".
