OK, here is an overly-self-indulgent splattering of pics. Hope you enjoy...

***********************************************************************

Its been nice seeing some great build-ups of this aging kit. A couple years ago I binged and bought up about five of the kits off eBay with aspirations of doing the full Red wing.

But I've been slow to build... The construction of the first took some moderately involved modifications, and dates back over a year. I'm finally getting to painting and weathering it, and hope to be done in a week or two.

Here are some pics detailing the mods:

Re: Another Pro-Shop X-Wing

Looks promising so far. Did you use kit parts for the added detail around the engines, the red, green and black pieces or are those cobbled bits of plastic? I think you need to move forward with this and get her built and painted!:thumbsup

Re: Another Pro-Shop X-Wing

Thanks!

Kit parts... I took sloppy, latex molds afterwards, but I don't think they're usable.

Ship is fully painted now (pics are a year old), and am weathering her now.

Re: Another Pro-Shop X-Wing

How did you build your R2? Also, are there any R2 toys or whatnot that would fit in the ProShop? The kit supplied R2 is probably the lowest point of this kit.

For this one, I just sanded the dome clean. Funny you ask though - there was a Jedi Star Fighter model kit (Revell, I think) that had an R2 that scales perfectly for the studio scale X-Wings.

Here it is in my FX toy conversion:

Looks great so far. I'm glad your finaly finishing this up. Are you lighting this?

I started my second ProShop as well. I did some panel scribing tonight and finished the aluminum cannons.

Negative on the lighting. I just don't have the patience for it; just want to build the darn thing. So, static model; no lights, no motion.

Have to do next all the little difficult areas, like the cannons, the engine intakes, and other nooks and crannies.

Then its home free with the really fun and easy stuff - the top of the upper wings, R2 strip, and the fuselage.

Re: Another Pro-Shop X-Wing

Looks great. I want to see what you did with your R2. This is the weakest part of the kit. I sanded his head smooth the other day and then moved to sealing the engines with 10mm LEDs.

I keep putting R2 off! Will be the last I do. The studio scale version was hard enough (though I am pleased with it).

One more upper wing surface, plus the fuselage, then I'll be all but done.

Re: Another Pro-Shop X-Wing

O.K. I'm no X-Wing expert, but I see you blocked off the openings on the inside surface of the wings. Is that Hero or Stunt?

Re: Another Pro-Shop X-Wing

I know that you're really busy with the deathstar Rob. I have to ask this anyway, are you making any progress with this X-wing,or is it on hold?

Well it's about time! :lol It looks great. After working on my Salzo I can't get over how unshapely the ProShop R2 is! When I was building my PS I thought R2 looked pretty good. Now, mount that over your Deathstar!

I actually finished it over a month ago! Just lazy about posting it up! When you mention R2, you mean the stock version out of the box? I think once sanded smooth, it steps it up a bit.
