Presenting my latest adition! RED-2

Wow- just like the model shots in the good 'ole Art of Star Wars book..

Are you sure you didn't just use a time machine- go back in time to Van Nuys, CA in 1976 and grab the original Red 2 ??

Stellar work..

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but I had just read that for the SW Special Editions the computer design team used Red2 to generate the new CG X-Wings since it was one of the few surviving models, and as a result, the 'new' shots of Lukes X-Wing in the SE's only have 2 red stripes on the wings, so this is Red5 also.

Awesome job, BTW.....

Gonk 27,

The rust was just an ordinary enamel wash mixed with different amounts of paint depending on which effect I was after. The chipping effect was achived with liquid latex mask. It's applied with a tooth pic and when dry painted over with red. Then you just rubb of the latex blobs and voila. Instant chipping. :)

Cool. thanks very much for the tip :)

Thanks a bunch guys. :cheers

Steve,

:lol Well I haven't been able to confirm yet if RED-2 appears in ESB but I'm hoping for the best. Maybe I should pull off a contest -Give me picture proof of Red-2 appearing in ESB and I'll send you the model as the grand prize. ;)

nwjedidave,

Believe it or not but we actually used my super old and craptacular "Olympus 220-camedia". It was bought back in the stonage but it has to do until we have money to buy a full system digital camera.

James Kenobi 1138,

Yes, that's correct. The Red-2 model was also the one used for most if the publicity pics used back in the 70's. As far as I know it's the best documented X-wing of them all.

Cheers,

Steve.

Great Lord, every time I see this thread I fall out of my seat all over again.........absolutely phenomenal... Steve is The Master indeed...

This got to be my slowest project ever. Not becuase it was especially difficult to build or paint but due to being started right before my move to a bigger place. Then it had to wait on a shelf during the renovation of our new appartment.

Well it's finally ready for display. Good Ol' Capten Cardboard studio scale kit with lots of mods made by me (including a studio accurate pilot). A big thanks must go out to Lee who shared he's painting tricks for me. This one was done with his "trade mark" gloss white car paint/steel wool rub down technique. I was sceptical at first but I have to say that he's technique really paid off. It really gave the entire model the same feel the originals had. As always the goal was to make something as true to the real model as possible without taking any "artistic freedom". Staying true to the real deal so to speak.

A big thanks also has to go out to my girlfriend who helpt me light the pics, our goal was to capture the same look as those wonderful ILM "black backdrop" pics seen back in the days.

I hope you like the final result, thanks for looking.
