Potentially interesting news for Superman fans...

I'm glad to see Nolan attached but I wonder how much input a director will want to take from him. Thank God they didn't go with McG or Brett Ratner as mentioned.:sick
I don't know what the consensus is but I actually liked Routh as Superman.

edit: YAY 100 posts.:)

Sometimes I think I'm the only one who actually liked Superman Returns.

One thing I definitely don't like is Hollywood's new habit of rebooting franchises every few years.

I liked it except for the Superman stalking scenes. That was just ****ed up.

I liked Returns, but yes, I don't want more of the same. I didn't expect comic accurate Supes, I knew it was Donner-verse based.
Clearly it is time for a supervillian. Time to up it a notch and bring in what it takes to really challenge the man of steel.

The only thing that makes sense to me for this is that they are bringing in Nolan as creative cop. Now, I think that means Nolan will be enforcing the law of channeling the comics like Nolan did with Batman. Supes isn't Batman of course. We don't want a Super-Batman afterall.
I think Nolan understands that, so if he is just there to say, hey... read those comics
and get that material up there. I'm fine with that, and I am fine with Singer coming back even. No large problems with Routh either. It would provide some continuity unless they really want to go hog wild with comic accuracy. Then you need a guy built HUGE!

Superman Returns had its high points (the plane rescue was 100% pure, unadulterated Superman). However, the creepy-stalker aspect, the utter bimbo-stupidity of Lois, and Super-baby ultimately killed it for me.

I'd be interested to see where this goes. In my opinion, we don't need yet ANOTHER retread of the origin story. If you don't know where Superman comes from after it being part of popular culture for over 60 years now, you need to crawl back under your rock and let the rest of us continue on our way.

Returns was pretty good.

I only hated the costume, the Superstalking and the actress playing Lois was not believable as a seasoned journalist.

Routh was terrific, as was Spacey.

Plenty of fun.

You supposed Donner would Direct if asked?

I'll buy anything that Nolan is selling.
That guy has earned my respect time and time again with every movie I've seen that he's been responsible for.

Hearing that they are gearing up for a 3rd Batman is beyond awesome.
Hearing that he will be involved in guiding Supes back on track is almost as awesome.
You can pretty much rule out any corny or campy elements, which I think is long overdue for Supes.
It's about time someone added some sophistication to these heroes' stories.

.

Nolan...does that mean 3 hours long, more focused on the Daily Planet then sups and his biggest threat will be dogs?:rolleyes

Glad for a reboot, returns was not good. So much movie series potential wasted. Not a big Noland fan, but at this point willing to try anything new for big Blue.:thumbsup

If they're going for a reboot, I'd really be interested in seeing a late 30's/ early 40's Era Superman film.

I agree..The plane rescue was amazing, but after that it went down hill..

That is the only scene I liked from the movie..

I like nolan, but not sure if the man of blue can be saved...They need to scrap everything from the last film, and put a lot more action into it

He was a caricature of Reeve. He was trying too hard. However, I would be okay with Routh continuing as Superman. Spacey was absolutely the wrong guy for Luthor. He didn't fit in.

And Superman is practically a God amongst insects, but not all powerful. I think it's time they started treating the character that way. And no way in hell he wouldn't flinch from being shot in the eye - I don't care how super human you are, you close your eye... the scene just reads: "I'm a psychopath and I can take being shot in the eye". The scenes in Returns where he's up in the sky listening to the cries of the people beneath him knowing that he couldn't save them all, where one of the best things in that movie (I didn't like the plane crash scene - I thought it was way over the top stupid).

Play it real... what would the real world be like with something like Superman in it - not just a regular world where Superman is just simply written into. His presence would have some profound effect on people and how the world works. He's an alien being for heaven's sake, who just happens to look like a man. And quit the goofy Kent stuff... it just reads like a parody of Reeve.

Found my new candidate for Superman: Gregg Avedon. Hook this boy up with some acting lessons and let's ROLL!

I doubt a guy like that could pull off Clark Kent. You may not like Clark, but he is integral to the Superman mythos. The bad thing about a Superman film is who do you have him fight? Aside from magic and kryptonite, he is invulnerable. Zod was a good fight for him. Metallo would be good as well. Hell, I would go with a good Doomsday. Enough with Lex Luthor already.

That, right there, is the problem.

LOL. Well, I'm assuming he can't already act. I've only seen him in one thing which was only a 2 minute bit part in Burn Notice.

Still, I think he looks the part and if he CAN act, it'd be a great fit. Honestly, Clark was still a huge dude in the comics, so I don't see it being too much of a stretch. Again, it depends on if the guy can act enough to pull off being the lead. :)

Yes, he was a huge dude, but he was known as a nerd. He wasn't allowed to play sports thanks to Jonathon Kent. He basically had to repress everything that was super about him.

The thing that is missed, in my opinion, when people bring up some buff dude for supes is that Kal-El was the everyman. As Clark Kent, he blended right in. These strikingly handsome male model types are all the wrong idea. You cannot pass that guy off as Clark. Clark blends into the background and is forgettable.
