Possible ID: The Doctor's Guitar

Hey guys,

I've done a bit of goggling around and think I've ID'd the vintage guitar Peter Capaldi played in *that* awesome scene from "The Magician's Apprentice".

Having done some research I think it's the Yamaha SGV. This picture is of the 1966 model (which I lifted off the Yamaha website) but later models are available too. Capaldi recently said in a Doctor Who Extra about the guitar that they bought it at a vintage guitar shop on Denmark St, London. I reckon it may be an 80s model but I'm not sure. I can't see if his guitar has gold hardware or not, but I'm pretty confident this is the guitar he uses.

What do you think?

Seems about right to me!

Incidentally, there's a few on eBay at the minute if you search - take a look if you're after one! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221891423027?ul_noapp=true

UPDATE:

Looks like this may well be the right one - I'm leaning towards the SGV-300.

Quite a few on eBay at the moment if anyone fancies picking one up. Quite a quirky guitar and Yamaha (especially vintage ones) have a sturdy and reliable build quality.

Looks close, but I think that the guitar he used had a cream-ish neck, which is very similar to one that my Grandad has... I'm gonna do some digging...

I found this picture on the BBC website, it has a better view of the headstock.
My guess is that it's the SGV-800.
The SGV-800 had the pearloid scratchplate and chrome hardware. Although only the white SGV-800 is in the ad posted by RagleGumm it was also available in black.

Having reviewed the evidence, I definitely agree with Radical Gordon - a friend of mine has also pointed out the scratch plate and he also thinks it's the SGV-800. It looks like these aren't *too* expensive on the Bay and other sources so it might be possible to pick up a "close enough" model and modify it to be more screen accurate if you want to do so!
