I’m in the early stages of making my own Dead Mans Chest from Pirates. Years ago I 3D modelled the chest with the intention of making one for myself… “Now we finally get to spend it” :D

I have made a few tweaks to my model since with help from members here over in my interest thread in the for sale section.

I am making it from real walnut hardwood with real metal panel inserts. A lot of my time has been spent figuring out the best way to make this chest as its very complicated and really requires very precise woodwork. Fun :)

Here is where I’m at so far, just glued these on last night.

The printed handle parts will be replaced with metal eventually.

Here are a few more pics of my early tests casting metal parts and adding a fake patina effect. Laminating for the curves. I’m going to ebonizing the wood with my own solution etc.

More pics as I go, hope you like it so far.

Oh man! I was looking forward to see the wood work :) that is super cool! I'll be following that eagerly (y)

Thanks eethan, appreciate it (y)

Nearly got all the wood made for the bottom of the chest. Still surprising how many pieces there are. You start off with just the base and it looks really small, add in all those up rights and its suddenly looking like a sizable prop.

Made a new jig for laminating one particular part of the chest. Really pleased with how its turned out. Very satisfying:

More soon

Well, my chest looks like a piece of **** in comparison to this! That timber work is downright beautiful so far! I particularly love your lamination jig for the arched sections!

Really excited about current progress, its really coming together now. Starting to look like a chest. My attention will soon turn to the metal parts... cant wait :) I havent yet properly finished the walnut so please bare that in mind.

Yes it's a 3D print which I will recast in metal. I'm printing all the panels, moulding then casting in metal.
