Thoughts on this week’s episode…
Best representative of new Trek dialogue in this week’s episode was given by Agnes, regarding the French police officer: “I gave him ‘something’ to make him forget..”
The second best was by (the latest version of) Dr. Soong: “…rich heiresses that want me to clone their ******* cat.”
The Soong family tree continues to demonstrate that it is, in fact, a tree that has no branches.
It was great to see that Picard was a watcher of TOS when he remembered that Captain Kirk had met a Gary 7 at some point.
Geordi, Beverly, and Worf are going to start taking it personal that Patrick has given work to Wesley, Riker, Data, Troi, Guinan, and Q but has yet to throw them a bone. There are only so many episodes left…

Felt like another filler imo..
We are suddenly meant to care for a Picard we know not about...the end suprise we guessed halfway through but guess it almost reboots that character..until she meets herself in the past is my guess..
It seems pretty obvious that the 50 producers and the writers on the show have tasked a few interns to scour the internet for the “Top 50 moments in Star Trek” and used their notes to sprinkle a thick layer of Easter Eggs all over their writing.
So far, the interns’ research has yielded Easter Egg references to an overwhelming number of prior Star Trek events:
- First Contact
- Tomorrow is Yesterday (TOS)
- City on the Edge of Forever (TOS)
- Assignment: Earth (TOS)
- The Changeling (TOS)
- Yesterday’s Enterprise (TNG—the actual episode title was used as a “break in the 4th wall” in Q’s dialogue)
- Past Tense Parts I and II (DS9)
- Deep Space Nine characters (Dukat’s skull and Quark’s skull)
- Star Trek IV (the “punk on bus”)
I’m sure there are plenty of others I have missed and that there are plenty more to come…
Perhaps the show should be retitled Star Trek: Easter Eggs?

So far, this is the only prop from the series that I would like a replica of.
Is it true that they are just using cell phones for their Tricorders, this season??
Edit: Apparently so. That’s just lazy…

I really don't see the issue, they are in custom cases, running custom graphic interfaces. It's like being annoyed that the bridge uses commercially available video screens behind the walls. If they didn't fold in half (the thing that really sells it as a tricorder) you wouldn't know what brand they were, and thus it wouldn't annoy you.
Hard not to be hopeful after seeing that.
I can only say that, for me, the Starfleet Landing Party Triad (Phaser, Tricorder, and Communicator) have always been uniquely designed and iconic props.
Unlike some franchises, they have never been “found objects” with greeblies attached to them; it just isn’t part of the history of the multiple iterations of these three props. It isn’t wrong to use “found items” for props, of course, but for these 3 iconic props, it’s “different”. There is a history of iconic designs to these three props that are tied to iconic designers and are a key part of the Star Trek “look” and history over time.
I would have the same reaction if they put a few greeblies on a 21st century pistol firearm and called it a “Phaser”….it may work for other franchises, and be perfectly acceptable, but for Trek….well, it’s just “different”.

Aw, don't be such a Luddite. All phaser rifles should all have pump actions. Pads should be ipads, and phasers should be made from the most recognizable revolvers in the world and all communicators should look like lady shavers.
