Picard S2

It says a lot that best that Nu-Trek can hope for is fans saying “I didn’t totally hate the latest episode”…
They need to take a risk pair it down, loose the flashy budget and concentrate on developing a solid story..

Heres an idea..
Different stories based around Starfleet from ensin to Admiral.
Different directors every week.
Different genres every week.
I'd even watch an ensemble piece say like a Talking heads/ Shakespeare style..

Two men in a room
Picard and Q the wilderness years..View attachment 1555069

After episode one, I was hopeful, but episode two nose dived into JJ Type stupidity.

I am so tired of these alternate timeline, mirror universes, where everything is ultra dystopian and horrific.

I’ve come to realize that after a full season, other than Picard and seven of nine, I don’t know any of their names. And that’s probably due to the fact that I don’t care about any of them.

They could all blow up, and I would not shed it tear.

I also thought that it was silly that we had seven of nine‘s face covered in all those shots so that would be a huge reveal that she didn’t have her Borg implants, after the teaser for the show clearly already identified that. If you’re going to go to those length to cover it for a big reveal, don’t spoil it with the teaser.

At this point, the only Star Trek I’m looking forward to is prodigy.

Will be watching later tonight...
I know what you mean though, the only character I liked was Hugh from last season and they killed him off after what Thirty years ?
It shows how clever Gene was or just the fact it was just oh so new back then..
I do enjoy or did Discovery..Burnham was a pain in the neck but I warmed to her and the crew..
I really enjoyed when Pike and Number one practically carried that S2 finale but do wish Jason Isaacs character returns.. yeah it was a little JJ and Flashy withbthe nano tech but Anson Mount is very retro in his style and hope the series is too.. he's very Shatner which isn't a bad thing.

I can't disagree with "alternate time/reality AGAIN" comments, but I did kinda enjoy this one. The Q dialogue was very good.
Jurati is annoying, but quite tolerable compared to Tilly, who I want to slowly lower into a wood chipper.

It's one of those "go with it" things, but if it's an alternate timeline with a change point that far back, most of the people in the present time would not exist. Different people would be meeting and having babies, etc.

I quite enjoyed last nights episode, I dont mind a Timey Wimey jaunt as long as its exciting.. I think though not warming im starting to accept Jurati a little more. All the odd looks are there more for us the viewer than actually happening as it were to give us the audience social que's
Q as always chewed the scenery and although talking in a rapid way I took in every word he said, I guess that's the difference with a loved character.
I enjoyed seeing Picard as a Bad Ass military leader even Seven held her own..
That Borg Queen has a few tricks up her sleeve I am sure..I am thinking we may meet a pre Borg version of herself..maybe thats where the story is heading..

My top two GUESSES (so no spoilers here) that the Borg queen is either:
1) Picard's mother, as RLM posits (which would help to retcon why Picard assimilated into the special "Locutus" form in TNG in the first place)
2) Jurati herself

That thought has crossed my mind too..
Especially after she said "Look up"

Episode 3 was solid, first episode in 2024. Time travel sequence was well done. Annie Wersching is killing it as the Borg Queen. Looks like some of our social commentary this season will be associated with
Rios getting arrested by ICE, as he's Hispanic and has no identification

Looking forward to tonight's (Friday) episode..
It seems to be building nicely so far..

No synthetic body available for the Romulan kid?

So, first in season one they randomly changed Seven’s sexual orientation and now they’re changing her personality.

I'm pretty sure they are going to pull a Spectre of the Gun and have him be OK after they fix the situation. Remember Elnor isn't actually in his own body, he's in the body of the alternative timeline Elnor. That's why Seven doesn't have any Borg implants.

Speaking of which, she sounds way more like herself this season. I especially appreciate that she's adjusting to not having implants and realizing it's a major improvement in how people interact with her. She's going to have to make a deliberate sacrifice to give that up.

How are they in the bodies of an alternate timeline themselves? They were thrust into an alternate timeline! Are we supposed to believe that the group is saying altogether in chairs in a dark room while their consciousness is in the body of somebody else who happens to be them? I never gotten that at all from the episode.

It's Q he can do whatever he wants. In addition to Seven's non existent implants, Q points out that Picard has a synthetic body in this timeline too, but only because Evil Picard already had one, due to something Gul Dukat did. So Q moved their consciousnesses from the moment of the explosion into the bodies of their counterparts in a new timeline he caused to diverge in 2024.

I have been pleasantly surprised with season 2 so far, although it seems as though they’re throwing all the nostalgic TNG things into one arc - Q and the Borg?!

I was a little disappointed with the selection of 2024 as the destination...so many other time periods that would have been more interesting.

And does anyone else feel like they are recycling First Contact? I swear Picard said “repair the past to save the future” or something in that movie…

Anyway, cautiously optimistic to see where the rest of the season goes…

They're recycling First Contact AND The Voyage Home. And yes, they're banking on nostalgia because frankly, that's the only thing these modern Trek writers know to do unfortunately... retread the same storylines from 30 years ago, instead of giving us a fresh and unique sci-fi adventure involving our favourite nonagenarian. I remember reading Sir Pat Stew's interview about why he decided to return as Picard and he said that he only agreed because they promised him that they will be doing something new with his character instead of doing the same thing during the TNG years. Well... so far I don't see anything new (aside from the fact that Picard is actually DEAD and replaced with a synthetic). Although I have to admit three episodes into Season 2 and it's still not as bad as the trainwreck that was Season 1, but the question remains... how long before it devolves into something dumb again?
