Picard S2

The real reason for the Jurati bar-window-breaking scene, Pat wanted to give his singer wife a cameo:

JFC. I had my suspicions it would be something like that, so thank you for the proof.

I also feel VERY confident that the musical number in the last episode was part of that actresses contract negotiations. LIke, she took a much lower rate if they promised her a musical number, because she wants to be a singer. I have no proof of that, but it would explain how jankily that scene was put into the episode and how it made zero sense.
Though the counter to that is that EVERYTHING is janky and makes no sense, so maybe that's a poor choice of litmus tests.
Most confusing is the people who actually like it, or the people who are defending it. I often find myself saying "is it just me? Am I the 'old guard' that you hear so much about that's destroying fandom"
But then I realize No, those people are simply philistines with no appreciation of good trek.

I’m trying to picture, 55 years from now, the doctors, engineers, astronauts, artists, writers, teachers, and yes, politicians, who will say that they became what they were because Star Trek: Picard gave them hope and taught them to aspire to reach over the horizon for a brighter future (you know, like Classic Trek)…

Somehow, I doubt that modern Trek will even be remembered in 55 years, other than by random passing thoughts by those who are seeing it now. I anticipate it will be consigned to the forgotten dustbin of pop culture history, right next to Saved By the Bell: The College Years, After M.A.S.H., Grady (Sandford & Son spin-off), Joanie Loves Chachi, Galactica: 1980, Knight Rider 2000, and The New Leave it To Beaver…

"The veteran actor said that, after decades of resistance, he now accepts that “Jean-Luc Picard is Patrick Stewart, and I am him. There is no separation anymore. I used my life continually when we were shooting Season Two and Three of Picard, and I’m no longer afraid of doing that, which at one time in my career I would have been. But not anymore. I feel I have something to say, and I can only say it through the performances that I give.”"

In other words, he's not even acting as Picard any more, he's just being Patrick Stewart. That's why he's so vastly different from the authoritative figure we knew from TNG.

Question: did I miss it, or did they never address the fact that Reneé Picard shares her name with René Picard, Jean-Luc's nephew that died in a fire alongside JL's brother? If they did, you'd think it would mean more to JL, with all the other physiological issues that they've been showing him dealing with. After all, it was the central issue for Picard in the plot of ST: Generations. The loss of his nephew hit him very hard, as evidenced in his words from that movie:

PICARD: I can't help keep thinking about ...about all the experiences that René is not going to have. Not going to Academy, reading books and listening to music, falling in love. ...Building a life. ...Well, it's not going to happen now.
TROI: I didn't realise he meant so much to you.
PICARD: I'd come to feel that René was as close as I would get to having a child of my own.
TROI: Your family history is very important to you, isn't it?
PICARD: Right. Oh, ...from being a small child, I can remember being told about the family line. The Picard who fought at Trafalgar. The Picard who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry. The Picard's who settled the first Martian colony. When Robert married and had a son, I...
TROI: ...You felt it was no longer your responsibility to carry on the family line.
PICARD: Right. Yes. That's it exactly. You know, Counselor, Recently I've become very much aware that there are fewer days ahead than there are behind. ...But I took comfort from the fact that ...the family would go on. But now there'll be no more Picards.

Come to think of it, where the F is JL's brother Robert in all these new memories of his childhood? They're essentially making JL out to be an only child.

I can't believe that, with all this new psychological trauma that's been brought to light, Picard's issues with the loss of family and the end of his family line aren't mentioned, especially when dealing directly with his ancestor that shares the name of his dead nephew.

And it turns out the death of Picard's nephew and brother was another of Stewart's direct influences on a Trek story. He pushed for their off-screen deaths in ST: Generations:

EDIT: I just realized autocorrect changed "psychological" to "physiological." Corrected.

To give a little insight into how terrible picard is, I've seen MANY people posting that clip from Blunt Talk where Walter is having trouble getting the bathroom tech to work, and in the comments section there's LOTS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE wondering which episode of picard that clip was from because they don't recall it.

JFC people if you're watching a clip of PS cursing up a storm while trying to take a dump and FOR ONE SECOND you think it might actually be from Picard, I think that's all you really need to know about the quality of the show.

Also, the clip is amazing so there's that.

This also falls into the “Is this is an actual clip from the show?” camp.

You know, Counselor, Recently I've become very much aware that there are fewer days ahead than there are behind. ...But I took comfort from the fact that ...that one day, when I die, my mind will be photocopied and stuffed inside an advanced android body duplicate of my own, programmed to age at my current human rate of decay, while I pine for the (re)death of my BFF Commander Data, even though he and I never displayed anything other than a cordial working relationship up until he sacrificed himself to save me from my own clone.

Is this show worth watching if I haven’t finished TNG? Or, like, is it even worth watching at all? I’ve been watching RedLetterMedia’s videos on season 2 and it looks *miserably* boring.

Hit..
Nail..
On..
Head..

This whole season could easily have been a one episode story.
There is so much bloatwhere irrelevant story if you can call it that telling..
A few sparks of interests and the now the promise of the old crew returned for series 3, hrm didn't they already do this in the movies..
Like a lot of shows.. Im looking at you Peaky Blinders, the main character isn't always the most loved or engaging of characters.
But if the peripheral characters are also vanilla bland with the exception of Rios.. the house of cards comes tumbling down.
If you like 20 minutes of the worst car chase sequence on celluloid/digital your in for a treat.
My advice... just watch the recaps then skip to next episode, its so slow without content even the recaps repeat themselves.
When I started this thread I thought it was going to build and be a much better product..then again its not Picard but a meer photocopy in the hands of writers who plod through episode after episode a la "Lost" with very little happening..

"One step forward two steps back"

Don't waste your time, the Picard show is nothing at all like the masterpiece that is TNG.
Start DS9, VOY or ENT next if you haven't watched those series yet.

Oh yeah. I am almost through S5 of TNG and it’s just so good, cozy and inviting. The opposite of everything Picard seems to be. Like, I would want to live on the Enterprise. I know DS9 came next right but I think I am going to start Voyager after I finish TNG.

And its finally had a HD resto..no longer looks like a video bootleg!

Yeah I admit that’s part of why I will be going to Voyager next, I keep hoping DS9 gets a HD update before I watch. Though it seems more and more unlikely :(
Ds9 was the last series I watched.. until Discovery.
Is it any good the Alien character reminded me of a Carebear lol
