Picard S2

I dunno, but the one we got in the episode looked more comical to be honest.

Except the time machine would be a Tesla, and the only modification would be a voice synthesizer in the dashboard that he could talk to like Siri

Absolutely. Though I am kind of serious about the writers ripping off Happy Gilmore. Q (Shooter McGavin) meets with Soong (Joe Flaherty's character) and manipulates him to stop Picard (Happy Gilmore). But Soong (JF), instead of using guile or deception to stop Picard, just inelegently runs him down (HG) in front of witnesses and flees the scene. The only thing missing was a reaction shot of Q looking on in horror like Shooter did.

Another nitpick - how did they get Picard to the clinic? There were already witnesses and looky-loos at the scene, I'm sure one of them called 911. And even if they were able to avoid concerned onlookers from stopping them from taking an unconscious man, who was just hit by a car, away from the scene before paramedics arrived, how did they safely carry him away? Did they have a stretcher and a neck/back stabalizer somewhere? Or did they just all grab a limb and haul him away to the clinic like a sack of potatoes, like Jackie Moon?

Update:
I've been sitting with this weeks episode for a few hours now, and aside from the usual laundry list of "wtf are the writers thinking" moments, overuse of sloppy expository dialog, and an all encompassing lack of understanding of the source material and characters, the thing that sits deepest in my craw is that the writers had picard say "Quantum Leap" unironically.

Folks, the title of that show is a play on words. Quantum means tiny. Minimum. Leap indicates greatness in size. Hearing that roll off the lips of "JL" as Raffi calls him means that that line of dialog made it ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP of the writers approval chain and onto Stewarts lips without anyone noticing that it's a play on words that did not make any sense in the context of that scene.

JFC.

Here's an interview with ST: Picard co-creator/writer Kirsten Beyer. It offers some insight into why the show is what it is:

“What Would Picard Do?” Kirsten Beyer On Co-Creating ‘Star Trek: Picard’

Here's some...illuminating quotes from the article:
Perhaps you don’t need to be a Star Trek fan person to enjoy the show, but as a show creator or writer, you DO need to be fully aware of the history, chronology and back story of the project for which you’re

May be they beamed him From the pavement to the clinic. Dunno, just stretching this one. Won’t see the current ep until mid day Friday (In the UK).

And why the medical mind meld with Picard anyway. Just turn him off and back on again. He’d be good to go.

I thought of that too, but there are people around, and they mentioned they couldn't beam Rios off of the Department of Homeland Security bus because there were people who would see and it could disrupt the timeline. Not that they actually care about that most of the time.

So I'll never complain about short episodes ever again. I kept wishing this one would be over. It also took me longer to get through because I kept rewinding scenes because I was trying to understand what the hell was going on.

So much was just...I don't even know. I feel bad for the actors, they're doing a good job, but the writing is just nonsensical.

Rios:
Here, take this device from the future to fix Picard's brain. You'll know how to use it better than I do, you're a doctor, I trust you, even though you haven't been trained to use it and have absolutely no way of knowing how it works or what it actually does. Once you're done, I'll beam you and your kid to my spaceship. I'm sure this won't have any effect on the future we're trying to return to normal.
