Phantasm movies

I was thinking that it would be fun to see another Phantasm movie with all the main characters and original actors. My favorite character is The Tall Man. I'd like to see one made before Angus Scrimm kicks the bucket, as he's 84 now. I don't have a clue as to how or where they'd pick the storyline back up.

Would you be up for another Phantasm movie or do you think it should be over for good?

Actually, I remember an article in Fangoria (I think it was) about the Fourth one, where an alternate ending showed Michael and Reggie burying the remains of the Tall Man in the Arctic or someplace like that.

I think it was an article about the fourth film. May have been the fifth film.

They were going to another one about Jebediah Morningside, an undertaker who builds the gates, steps through, and becomes the tall man, an Origins movie, but they just haven't been able to get the backing.

Fact: Angus Scrimm was/is a comedian, totally unlike the tall man in demeanor

Fact: Angus Scrimm has written most of the liner notes for all the CDs out there, that's his bread and butter.

At 84, he's still quite spry, and could easily do another movie.

I really like him. I read somewhere a while back that he would love to do another installment of the series. I wish there were more concrete plans to get another film rolling.

Not really. It's always been kind of a cult series. Plus, the stories never struck me as all that clear. They seemed to shift what was going on in each installment.

I've been a fan since I saw Phantasm at 8 years old IN the theater! Yes, back in those days, kids were allowed to see this stuff and it was no big deal.

The only thing missing from the Phantasm story is an ending. We found out about Jebediah Morningside and going through the gate he invented, we never really found out what happened, just that when he returned... it was as the Tall Man.

The series shouldn't conclude with Reggie going through the gate to the Tall Man's dimension while Mike lies dying in the desert after the Sphere was torn from his skull. It's a heartbreaking ending!

I thought Coscarelli might have done a final film after the accolades he received for Bubba Ho-Tep and might have been able to pull funding together, but I guess not. I still have my fingers crossed cause I love to watch Reggie bannister in these films. He's funny as hell. I actually met him in 1996 or so at the big Chiller convention in NJ and he was a real nice guy. His band played and they were badass!

No reboots - just write a kicka** story. Series jumpstarted. Done. You just need Angus walking down a hallway (or even just standing there) saying "boooooyyyy!!!" The rest of the movie can be about the killing and whatever. It's not like Angus Scrimm is Indiana Jones and needs to do a lot of stunts or anything. It wouldn't be a proper Phantasm without him, though.

I kinda like that the series is vague. It leaves you guessing, is open to bigger things, and doesn't treat you like a ****** like so many movies these days. I don't need everything spelled out or answered.

Man, after reading this thread I watched part 3 and 4 last night (steaming on Netflix). Awful movies. Terrible. Even the second one was lack-luster.

The first is certainly interesting and up there as a Horror Classic. I like the unexplained sci-fi element of it and the low budget production helps create the unintentional vibe.

I agree that they need to just come up with an ending to the series, but I have a hunch that they just used creepy images and such and never really had any serious idea what was going on in the story.

Well, aren't a lot of movies that people make props from crappy? :lol

They could definitely make a good one with the technology now!

Yeah, I think the same thing. It's still a cool, not-serious flick that deserves appreciation for its korny humor.

If they ever did another one, it would definitely need to have Angus Scrimm. Honestly, I don't know what current actor could play his part and be better.

Reggie has a kooky humor that I think the producers knew was korny and meant it to be as such. I've heard he's a really nice guy in person, it's cool that you got to meet him!
