That plastic lamination technique looks really nice, may have to pilfer your idea for a future costume lol

I'd be honored! I love trying new things and some work, some don't. This one works acceptionally well! Glad you like it. I always try to post the good and the bad so that if something doesn't work others will benefit. :ninja

I am taking sewing classes with my wife so we can get into some of the soft super hero suits! Where I'm going with this is that I really really loved Mr. Miracle and Big Barda. :love I want to make my wife's Barda helmet using this lamination technique. It would be ultra slick, shiny and have razor sharp seams.

First I have to get her to sit still for a full torso life cast lol. It will be like bathing a cat!!!:devil

You'll pick up sewing easily, it's a fairly simple skill, and machines are nice and easy to work with.

Barda's bucket will be a PITA to make, but I've seen good ones made before! Oh, and good luck with the torso cast :p

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

May i ask what pepkura files you used for this?

Wow! All my posts and I literally didnt think to put in a link to the files I used. :sick I hope I gave proper credits to Zabana, Stagefivedrift, Spektrum917, dubean33 on the 405th and all the people associated with the files! I may have mentioned names, but forgot the links. My apologies to the masters who graciously posted their files!:$

Here is a link to the file sets that I am using. There may be other sources for the same files. Simply type in War Machine Pepakura files and you will get hits. Most of the ones I am using were unfolded by Stagefivedrift/Spektrum917 though and Master Zabana!

WAR MACHINE HIGH-DEF Pepakura files TEAM-UP second try

Here is an RPF link to some great helmet files as well! Thank you for posting them Bimmer!

I have however been using these as a "Base" and there have been changes to simplify and mods to bring the files more into keeping with the movie and HotToys versions... :love for examples, please see some of my more recent posts concerning the build up of the lower torso on the sides and lower back under the rockets...\ What a flipping nightmare, but worth it!:devil

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Also may i ask what resin and strengthener you use?

Thanks!

Bondo resin in the gallon can. I use fiberglass cloth and shredded Kitty hair glass fibers as needed. I am also starting to use Epoximite.
I hope this helps my frined!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Hey! Remember me!! Yes, yes, I've been gone forever LOL! Been prepping my soft costumes Batman and DareDevil for Dragon Con 2013 and been making a Barnacle Boy costume to go with my friend Ricks Mermaid Man suit! :ninja Going to be a hoot at Con and for Kids Charity events!:cool

I have just finished pepakura on my boot! next step is of course resin then Bondo and then ....yippee! Moulding it in flexible plastic from SmoothCast!

Here is a picture! :D

A very dear friend of mine Propnoob76 did me a huge favor and pepped some parts for me to help me out!! I will post pics of these when they arrive!!:lol

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Well 3 cons in 2 weeks was a little much lol! We went to Tampacon, Mythicon and finished with Dragoncon 2013! Very exhausted but happy! It was a great set of experiences! Got me Con Crazy lol!

Whatcha lookin at BUB! Never seen a comicon nerd eat???:cheers I spent a great deal of time in costume in Tampa and Atlanta, Learned a ton about what makes costumes wear well and what is uncomfortable as hell. Got a few scars now....I'm not Wolverine damit. Costuming hurts sometimes!

But I did win the Zombie King award for best male zombie costume at DC.. Made some great new friends too!

But on the plus side I am back home stoked with ideas and excited to make progress on my War Machine! My good buddy and brother broke out his mad pepakura skills and Pepakura Designer /Computer skills and not only cleaned up the files we had, but streamlined, simplified and started pepping them for me!:ninja My brother David aka Propnoob76! I owe you big time! He sent me the legs, biceps and some other parts so that I can focus on doing what I do best, finish-work, fiber glassing, making molds and pouring plastics!,
Here is a picture or two of the bicep.

Very straight and requiring the minimum of work to glass and mold!

Here is the plate for the back of the hand! He sent me hip pods too and is finishing up my abs and codpiece as well as the forearms. If you remember I have Wondersquids awesome arm gun and Gatling gun kit. I will be toughening them up with plastics and installing the mechanism for firing them!:cool

I'll be posting pictures of the other parts he made as I work on them! He might be willing to work on commission if people are interested. If so, let me know and I will post a link for him here!:cheers:cheers:cheers:cheers

I also got to work on the back flap/rocket covers. Here are a few pics of those in progress.:D

to smooth it out some.

Here we go with a little sanding and some primer

I also poured my first Dragonskin face appliances. Made molds with Ultracal and some wonderfully successful appliances for a friends Mermaid Man Costume.. Yes I went as Barnacle boy lol!:facepalm

:lol

Behold the incredibleness which is Dragoncon! :rolleyes

:lol

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Thanks! Tied up a bunch of time away from my build though!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

I clicked on this thread just to see where things were at and literally just spent the better part of half an hour getting caught up on the whole thing. Just....Wow...at how far you've come from where you started. Loving your "never accept good enough as good enough" approach to your WM. My head is swimming with all kinds of fun new things to do thanks in part to the innovations and techniques you've brought in from R/C building (I'm a former plane builder myself, although I tended to stick to .40 sized nitro stuff). I had completely forgotten about the popsicle stick clamping method. Thanks for being the spark for the memories flooding back to all the things I dropped long ago when life got in the way.

While you were busy being inspired by others here, you've now become an inspiration to me.

Keep up the good work!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

That looks awesome man!!!! I'm glad you like the parts, that is the least I can do after you have helped me so much, that looks super accurate (99.9% Fan made) just had to add that, just in case. One thing thou, the biceps, thighs, cod-abs, shins and forearms are brand new files, I don't want for the masters to think we are taking their models and claiming the changes, they are still what makes us try to do better.. hahahahhaha. I can't wait to see them all finish....

Wow! Thank you! The key is to take what works best and not get too attached to something if it looks bad or isnt working out. There is a lot of trial and error so hence a lot of thrown out stuff...but that means you've leaned something! It is starting to go faster now as I learn what is better. All of my years of R/C plane experience have been very helpful, but that said, please read everything! even things on builds that have nothing to do with your project, the 501st, the Dented Helmet and youtube are awash with really good stuff and if you have questions please ask! Dont be put off by trite or brusque responces. remember some of the folks that are masters have answered the wquestion 100 times already so read their threads LOL!
If I can be of help please ask!
Michael

Wow this is some great work!

Thanks! always a WIP and seeming to never get done, but it is coming...lol hopefully to a Con near you...someday!
