Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weaponry!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

I promised my buddy propnoob I'd post some progress pics! I have been busting my butt to get this armor done, so here is some progress on the War Machine leg!

Miscellaneous parts.

Still a major work in progress as even the best built papakura sags when you resin it.. I am in the process of evening things out and cutting the lines back in laser straight and uniform...my mom calls this my work of art lol. Sometimes I feel like I'd have been better off sculpting it lol!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Been following this build and it is absolutely amazing! Love what you have done so far. I just started my WM build. Working on the helmet right now. Cant wait to see your finished project.

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

So, the day before yesterday I really looked at my new friend Gary Sterley (he is in the RPF) foam Space Marine build thread. Man it is so beautiful! (y)thumbsup(y)thumbsup:I am sure that almost all costumers and prop builders (especially us part timers) hit a spot during their build where depression over the length, difficulty or quality of the end product hits them hard. A bunch quit, a few jump to a new project and some persevere and stay the course.
I have to say looking at a great foam build that went together relatively fast and looked so awesome hit me like a train. Im in at a year and a half hard time here!!!:sick Serious bummage.:(
I really spent some time really thinking, "do I stay or should I go now?" I had to weigh the cost in versus the time and what I had done that had do consumed me for a year and one half.
Well I was skulking in my lair working on the joint plate for the upper abs vs the torso interface... And something happened! I went crazy for a minute or 30 and started grabbing parts and cans and rags and a really tall ladder. And Damn it my sleeping giant awoke!!! Just for a minute I felt like Dr. Frankenstein in the classic movie, the one where he raises hands to the lightning strewn sky, as the Tesla coils snap and buzz, and he screams triumphantly!!! "It's Alive!!" I felt that, now go back to sleep my creation.. Daddies back, and on fire!!!
Here is the whole fracking thing as it happened.. It wasn't intentional, just a wild, "I gotta see what Ive worked so hard on, even if just for moment!!" :devil

Hope fully someday very soon it will look like this! I bought my paint sprayer and hope to be adding color as I finish parts!:cheers:cool

This last one is just a parting shot of the upper ab plate test fitting after a first coat of Bondo...

Still an incredible long way to go and I wish I could be like Surreal :ninja and wait to post, but you all are part of my support system and I appreciate you all!

I had to throw this in for scale. I am 6 ft tall even and 200 lbs! This suit is massive yet fits like a glove!

Just brings a tear to my eye. Bloody amazing...GM

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

AWESOME.

I get the same way on projects all the time, especially when I'm chipping away on one problem with one small part, and I then realize that it's one of several problems on one of several parts, and they all have to work together, etc. etc. etc.... Very disheartening. Glad you didn't throw in the towel, I'm really looking forward to seeing this finished. :thumbsup

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

You aren't kidding!! I find all these parts look individual, but almost every part interacts with another and leads to these long chains of problem solving. Like you say, "Chipping away on one small part" only to find it linked to a series of connected issues lol. Well I'm back on fire and when I get depressed again I will just lay the armor out again!!!
Thanks Laellee!!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

The Suit looks FANTASTIC! Having the parts assembled really brings it to life and fills up your motivation tank. Just take it one piece at a time Michael, the warmachine suit is a tough build to finish due to it's design. When it is all said and done you will have something to be really proud of. You are doing a incredible job (y)thumbsup

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

You forgot the most important pic. Wearing it man...GM

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

DUDE! The whole suit laid out is pretty frakking swanky! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep going. Makes my cold little heart just a touch warmer knowing someone is taking this hobby to a whole new level.

Although, I gotta wonder why WM needs a shoe between his ankles. Then again, basic human anatomy has always puzzled me, so there's that... :confused

:D

Thank you! I hope to start molding the boot soon! If I could have back the time I wasted making a boot that fit, Id probably be done with the whole suit lol!

I apologize, I am not getting notices on all my threads or when people post! Thanks Surreal, you have been one of my biggest inspirations and the basis of my quest for excellence on this build. You showed me what could be done and what I want as finished product...

You are correct! I cannot wait till I am finished to post, but want to hold off on suited up pics till closer to the end. I am a natural teacher and if my posts saved someone money, time or helped them stay inspired or gave them a better idea, I am very happy! I will however probably wait until later to post more lol!

Wow long and pretty amazing build! So progress? feed us!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Finally solved my torso ab integration issue! !! This is the first time I've put it all on as a unit. I can do a full side to side rotation and bend quite a bit at the waist. I won't be doing yoga in it, but it is very comfortable and I'll be mounting my support structures inside starting this week. It's actually sitting too high on me due to using different thicker pads for this test pic.
Ive been crazy busy. I just finished a fiberglass Wonder Woman New 52 Divine armored torso for my wife and 3D maneuvering gear made out of sintra for my daughter all in time for megacon 2014.

Ive Posted the Attack on Titan gear on DarkTimes awesome thread.

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

So, I finally solved my torso lock, vs abs lock issue. Cut the lower torso off and rebuilt, then cut entire abs/cod apart and rebuilt.. Internal structure now in with custom brazed aluminum brackets! I can literally put these two pieces on and take them off by my self!!!! That was one of the goals! A rapid on and off for the entire suit!
Yes it weighs a lot. It is all fiberglass and bondo. I weigh in at 215 and 6 ft even and it makes me look shrimpy lol. I estimate 300-320 lbs gross weight when fully suited up.Yet it is comfortable and moves easily and breathes like Egyptian cotton.....errr I mean it had good air for through lol... \

Back to work, more to come... things are snowballing now!

I shouldn't be even talking MK2 version yet, but my inventive father is building me a rotocasting machine big enough for even the torso and abs. I will be making a mold and castng these babies up. Mk2 will be easily 50% lighter when made of Black Onyx lined with fiberglass!!

That is kick ass, glad you're still on this. And brazed aluminum?!?!?! Dude you're not mess'n around! :lol You should start wearing that when you answer the door for the UPS guy...

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

I really love this one. Interesting using the shoulder pads with the upper torso, nice idea. Let me know how the black onyx works. I was considering that for mine. Can't wait to see more...GM

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

YES MICHAEL That looks fantastic! When you get around to molding the suit I recommend casting the abs/cod and legs out of a urethane rubber it will make mobility and your "balance" a dream, as walking around in rigid heavy armor is trick in itself and you don't want to trip!
