Can't believe its been almost three weeks since my last post!:cry Been an interesting time too!:angry Home A/C died = no build... Vacation to Seattle and Alaska for ten days= No build.. Laptop died on vacation (motherboard burned out) = No build/ no posts:sick. Huge thanks to my brother Propnoob aka David V for helping me recover all my Iron Man and War Machine files!:cool David, I'd be so lost without your friendship and support!! Yes, everything is now backed up on my Terrabyte external drive LOL! :confused :behave:facepalm
I have however been doing a (Very) little on my shoulder bells. I held off posting as I wanted them better than my initial attempts that I had produced, these pics are pretty much stage 2. Shooting for perfection in stage 4 - 5.:sleep
Here are the pics and commentary about issues I am working to overcome..
At this stage they are....well? ok? , but only just.
Dont be fooled, as there are serious issues.:wacko Pictures inside the house hide flaws, the armor bridge covers alot of the flaws and the shoulder dongle does as well. When you remove them and put the bell under different lighting,(sunlight) the truth glares.. They suck.:eek
I appreciate Davy, Surreal and Fingaz time, advice, honest input and ideas! I am sorry it took so long to thank you guys!
Riddle me this, Here are some major problems I have been having...:$
What kept happening is, that no matter how carefully I worked on one section, I keep sanding off too much filler and either damaged a previously finished section or over worked it and lost details. I am also having extreme difficulty keeping those nice ultra sharp edges and keeping the curved seam lines straight. Plus my fiberglassed pep seams keep popping back out!:$
Yeah, I know, I am not 3D printing here, but look what three of my role models accomplished with pep and bondo..
So the answer is go back, keep trying, stop rushing, and mask while sanding, go by feel not so much by eye and mist coats of flat black when sanding!
So I mixed up some rondo today and brushed it on with a paint brush to get to this next step
I am aiming to be as close to the near perfection of my role models as possible and I know it is just going to be patience and trying things (sometimes over and over) until I get it right.
I started sanding the rondo covered part this evening and so far I am pleased with the way the divits filled and the general smoothness. The rondo sands better than I anticipated.I will probably need to apply another coat of the rondo.. What I liked about brushing it on so thin is that it over comes the issue of putting the Bondo on with a rubber spreader and having it go on so thick that you have to "overwork" the area to get back to the form underneath.. We are not fixing a dented car panel and only need very thin layers over the peps, not thick caked on body filler.. That was a Eureka moment for sure!:lol
I have also decided to loose the ultra hard sharp edges that I wanted so bad. My friend David pointed out several times in previous discussions that the WM peps used the game graphics for some parts and that if you look at movie stills the edges are more soft and rounded in the close ups.. Also in "real life" these parts would be stamped or lathed so razor sharp edges would likely not be used as it thins the metal and weakens it, plus rounded edges deflect more damage, sharp edges would catch more flack and damage easier. In my universe any ways!

We'll see how that turns out tomorrow when I sand again, prime, dust coat and sand and prime and....:unsure
Please, any ideas, tools, trade secrets would be appreciated, especially for those curved seam lines!
Thanks!
