Hey did you just discover a new moniker "master stealth" it's got a ring to it... GM

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Yes it does!:lol
Gotta give credit where credit is due!:cool

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

The track looks good i was planing one also..i was going to Use a heavy duty roller from a drawer.is that what you used?

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Hey Don! Yeah, I went to my local surplus store and found these super heavy duty drawer slides! What I liked was that the the inner track, on top of having bearings, is slit and semi flexible. As a bonus, it has a plate with pre-drilled holes mounted on it that will be great for a mounting bracket to attach the minigun armature to. The inner track is grooved as well so that I can use flat headed screws placed through the armor(under the rockets) for added strength when I mount it. I will likely still use epoxy as well.

The fun part:wacko will be the aluminum armature that extends through the torso. I will likely mock that up using balsa or light ply to get my geometry. Then bend my aluminum stock using that guide as my template.
Left to right motion will be accomplished with ganged 1/4 scale, metal geared R/C servos. Again these will be in mounting holes under the rockets, leaving only my servo arms inside the armor....Probably going to use a pull/pull steel cable system like we used on 1/4 scale aerobatic planes. There is a ton of room in the back side of the torso for mech and tech stuff!)
Gonna be cool! :lol

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Finally mounting the track for gun

Thanks Douglaz and WesR!:)
Man I thought I'd never be well again!:cry 5 weeks and 2 cycles of antibiotics and I am finally 96% well!!!:confused
Back to work on my armor as well!:love

As I stated, I hated the pepakura back on my war machine...It had a very sad lack of detail, so I cut it out! Here is the back sans center section. I am also experimenting with sculpting some clay to get special details...not happy, but for a first attempt, ill not complain too much.:unsure

norflex3.jpg

Today I cut some pvc plastic sheet 1/4 inch and using my heat gun, I bent and formed the sheet to perfect shape for mounting to the back! I did mold and pour a nice flat rondo lip to recieve the back plate... the epoxy riveted it into place and the back is now as firm or firmer than it was.:)

newback_zpsde0d6540.jpg

Here is how it looks from the other side.

newback1_zps902f7f8e.jpg

I am also using the PVC sheet to bring in some of the armor details that needed to be raised and sharp..if you look to the lower left tip you can see some of the detail. I'll go into more on that later, with more close ups.

Now that I have a clean, flat, secure base to attach it too here is the long awaited track system that will eventually hold the inside part of the mini gun armature!!

backtrack_zps3182cb0c.jpg
:)

This is a track with about 100 bearings and a flexible inner track that even with the curve put into it allows the track to move from left to right like butter! I hated the idea of the mini gun always being stuck on one side. I am sure Mk1 will be simply moved by my helper at my first con, but as time passes I will get it more sophisticated.:cool

backtrack2_zps0c0aaa6c.jpg

The minigun armature will come in through a slit in the top rear of the armor to attach to the mountng plate.

backtrack1_zpsdf56f7fb.jpg
:love

There still are some mods I need to make to the track, but I am very happy with the way it fits and moves!:$

The final out come will hopefully be a fully Arduino controled minigun, but more than likely the early test phase will be an external R/C system using my old 12 channel R/C radio and a helper that stands off a little, sort of like they do with the R2D2s at comicon.
I might try to recruit Ryan aka therealstark to give me lots of input!! :confused The man is truly a genius!

I want the gun to move right shoulder to left and back as well and up and down and a fully active pivot on the gun itself!:cool

A big shout out to my very very good friend David aka Propnoob74 who is also building a War Machine and helping me with mine in too many ways to list! I wish you were here Mi Amigo!

Got your Corona right here and ready to celebrate the Holidays!:cheers

Soon my brother!!!! hahahahaahhah Happy Holidays, oh wait Merry Christmas!!!!

The real beauty about projects of this kind and magnitude, is that there is always something else to do....:unsure:wacko

I was supremely over working on my torso and the idea of another afternoon yesterday in the garage, even with Corona was less than interesting...

So I took my repulsors from Ryan aka TheRealStark and decided I was going to make a test platform for them..
I really want gauntlets that go on like a glove for ease and simplicity... That is one reason I loved Ryans repulsors and unibeam and visor/eyes...and sound sfx and...:lol stand alone functioanility with no troublesome wires to run all the heck over your suit!
so I had ordered some of Docholidays nifty foam gloves because I knew I was going to be crunched for time and they are cool and a good idea as a Mk1 until I build Zabanas or some such in fiberglass

Here is a picture of the testbed.

repulsorglovetest_zpsf06ae51d.jpg

They really took a beating as I cut them apart to resize them to go over a pair of work gloves, but I am actually going to take and brush a coat of 20 min epoxy over the inside and out. This stuff hardens like steel and once done and painted black should tide me over until I can make a plastic or glass set as I said..
Saul, aka Docholiday was a great help and I really appreciated his sending me some extra foam, when I told him my plan to expand the gloves... His work is awesome so blame the look and the black foam butcher job on me!

Here is a really short video of the replusor in action...

They have true stand alone functionality with no troublesome wires to run all the heck over your suit! Plus they are a great deal for the price he offers... (He has saved me countless hours that I would rather spend doing other parts that I am better at...):)
Yes there are wires, but only local not run everywhere on the suit. :confused
So a month or so ago I had ordered a couple sets of Docholidays nifty foam gloves because I knew I was going to be crunched for time when I got to the hands and feet and besides they are cool and a good idea for me as a Mk1 testbed until I build Zabanas or some such gloves in fiberglass.

Please be aware that they really took a beating as I cut them apart to resize them to go over a pair of work gloves, I must have put them on and off and pulled them over the workgloves 30 times or more...
I am not too concerned how they look at this time as I am actually going to take and brush on a coat of 20 min epoxy over the inside and out. This stuff hardens like steel and once done and painted black should tide me over until I can make a plastic or glass set as I said..

I dont know if he is still making these, but they are sweet, especially if you are going to make a foam suit.

The trigger mechanism is elegant and works great. This test had it simply stuffed in the glove and not solidly attached!

nice clean build there!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Thanks BGremlin!

Well as promised, coated with 2o min epoxy....

If it hardens up well, i'll coat the inside, bondo sand, prime and paint for temporary gloves!
I know this isnt the best solution, but honestly it'll do for now.. more pics to follow.

They look purty.........

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Real nice work!! Looks great!!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Epoxy cured and I dry brushed the glove with silver...maaayyybbeee a little too much and to non specific,:$ but this is just a test bed at this point!:)
Neat thing about paint....it can be repainted!:behave

stressedglove1_zps6376dc73.jpg

I need an all black glove for under...the one I used has red on it and I painted it flat black.....:popcorn and really messed up the glove, the plastic parts on the glove melted from the paint!! Would have thought a pair of "WORK" gloves might be slightly resistant to solvents? :confused Not so:facepalm:confused

stressedglove2_zps4f722745.jpg

stressedglove3_zpsd67f8f94.jpg

Actually even though it was successfully epoxied, it is still slightly flexible and very tough.... eventually I want to do better gloves, but ok for temps!
The camera is a funny thing, looking at these pics you wouldnt think foam...at least I wouldn't:sleep

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Never thought of tryin epoxy, cant wait to see your warmachine all together awesome job:cool

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Hey Doc! Yes be aware though that the epoxy is NOT standard off the shelf 5 min epoxy that dries brittle!!! It is 20 minute Finish cure epoxy! I used this a ton for my R/C airplanes...It is tough, but meant for fiberglassing and finishing,,, it leaves pretty flexible high gloss finish that paints great!
Might work on a whole foam suit, but it needs to be put on then rotated to avoid puddles in the valleys, thin spots on the peaks and drips from the edges...It is Extremely self leveling and fluid until it sets at 20 +/- minutes and still it can sag and drip for an hour or so.. Plus edges that touch will stick to one another ( :lol it is glue:facepalm) so it is not a set and forget process...:wacko
In all this is an experiment that went very well!:)

I would definately consider this over a whole foam suit, though it isnt cheap or economical (is anything when you are building an armor suit?:cry ) unless you buy the larger size... a little goes very far... 2 oz did the glove with lots left over... 1-1.5 mixed would have been more than enough!

Laying up my first mold with smoothcast silicon! Works great! This is the nut that goes on the shoulder bell where it meets the bicep.:popcorn

Actually, finished this afternoon and will demold tomorrow and I have started the prepwork for molding my shoulder bells and that bridge/armor dongle that straddles the shoulder..)
