Painting Pertwee Sonic Help

Does anyone have any suggestions for painting the yellow spiral section of the Pertwee sonic screwdriver? I'm really not sure how to get it so uniform. I know that the CO toy has a sticker, but I really do not want to go that route.

I painted the section yellow and then used black draft person tape for the black line. I then coated the area with clear epoxy for protection.
