Limited Run Oblivion Movie Rifle - Second Run Capped!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

Yes! 10 it is! Let the fun begin! At this point others may pay in the deposits, but the free shipping offer is closed. I still want to cap this at 20, but I know one other person not on the list, so if everyone still buys in it will be 22. Thank you to the special 10 for making this possible for everyone else. I will update soon. Stay tuned!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

Im looking online ( ebay etc) for some cheaper alternative led torches - I know the optics are complex in the oveready ones, but just cant justify $200+ Anyone seen an good alternatives?

Also Im seeing some Chinese sellers offering grey Magpul MS3 slings which look like they could work

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

Good timing BATMANN! Sorry for the lull people, but I was waiting for this!!

This model has almost everything I will need to make an accurate shell. I can't wait to take it apart!

This model has the cocking handle in the right place (as far as I can tell)

PTS muzzle by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
This muzzle has most of the right look, I will mold and resin a copy of this that I can modify to get the exact look.

A big round of applause to Nostromo20 for purchasing this baby, shipping to me and allowing me to make molds from it! He has also assembled some great new reference and has found a possible cheaper version of the torch! I will be focusing on carefully disassembling and molding the handle and clip area, so give a few days to get my garage cleaned up and I can get back to this in full speed. Thanks again for your patience, I'm pretty sure, just by visual inspection, that there will be LOTS of changes to my current shell. Hey, can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs, I'm not sweating, this will be for the better in the long run.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

I'm glad you're after accuracy instead of getting it out the door as a half-accurate kit.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

Nice! So will the rifle have the folding buttstock then?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

If It's feasible in the design and I don't have to modify the original look, sure I'll do what I can.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

Glad Magpul arrived ok - Looks good - hope all goes well. I know it may delay things a bit but think its worth it to get really accurate replica

As mentioned I looked into trying to get replica of torch used - I have traced back the commodity elements that oveready use. Hopefully could receate (non functioning at least) very cheap replica - for example the lens is a carclo 3-up narrow, (10507) and is only $1.50

The biggest problem is trying to get the 10 round magazine - other than a real one I have not found anything.

Looking forward to updates on the build

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

If I can find the right air soft rifle i may go for a working replica as well.
I take it this will be made to fit the MAGPUL Masada ACR Airsoft AEG Rifle SV B only?

Looks awesome :D I wish I could afford one.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

BATMANN - I believe that's the model. All I know for sure is its got the cocking handle in the right place. I will do what I can to give everything some play, but not much.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

UPDATE!

Got the handle free of the gun, getting ready to mold

MagPul Handle 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

It's gonna be fun, lots of undercuts and things I will have to fill and adjust

MagPul Handle 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

But the hassle of the mold will be worth it.

MagPul handle 3 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

A size comparison between my guessed one and the real one.

MagPul handle4 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

In case anyone was wondering, my version of the handle is about 10% bigger in almost all dimensions.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Small update, I've been reviewing some new and juicy reference that reveals where I went wrong the first time around. I have also been busy with some new equipment that I will be using to make all of this better than before, such as a vacuum chamber and some newer resins (still working out the kinks :)). Unfortunately my day job does rear it's ugly head and sometimes I don't get anything done for a day or two, so I want everyone to know I am still here and progressing, just had to slow down a bit. I hope to get back to full speed next week. Happy Father's day to those of you like me who will be spending time with your kids, then come Monday - BACK TO WORK!!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

As far as my order is concerned, please take your time my friend. I remember I had to juggle between work and this craft which I love so much more that it took me close to 3 months to finish a Mjolnir raw kit from Pannus! Cheers!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

UPDATE! Here is the vacuum chamber I built up and some of the materials from smooth on. So far the resin seems good, but the silicone seems weird, still testing.

I made a mold of the larger clip and cut it down to create the shorter 10 round clip that seems to be hard to find and order.

The handle I finally got clayed up and sealed for molding, hopefully the next pics will be the handle mold done and cast and I can start on the new body!

Sorry for the bad pic, it was late and I think the camera wasn't the only thing that couldn't focus. Here is the revised drawings for the body, it's amazing how many little tweaks I made, that probably won't be noticeable, but to me are huge changes.
