Limited Run Oblivion Movie Rifle - Second Run Capped!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

UPDATE!
As promised, here is the assembled handle pics, enjoy!

Parts for Rifle handle by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
The Machined parts starting to get their final assembly. Now for the middle sections to make sure they all have the right depth and width.

Rifle Clip Cavity by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
At the last minute I decided to have a cavity in case people want a separate clip to slide in and out.

Rifle Trigger Cavity by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
I wanted to have a working Trigger, so this was a bit of a chore to make sure someones hand could fit in here, this is gonna be fun when it comes time to mold!

Rifle Grip 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
Finally got this monster together, man all that machining was a pain to get that texture.

The assembled Handle for the Rifle done! There is some minor parts issues left, but I'm starting to get a rhythm and want to keep building, but I must sleep now, dammit!

Assembled Rifle Handle 4 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
A test fit for my hand and grip, not to mention the possible trigger location. Sorry for the out of focus shot, I guess my camera likes to focus on my hand too much, sheesh.:facepalm

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

Well sign me up, that is looking epic! I really can't wait to see the rest of it being put together!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

This is looking FANTASTIC. I can just imagine a nice bright blue Cree LED in the barrel and a nice soundboard in there! This would go great next to my Pulse Rifle.

That does sound cool, I gotta figure out where to hide the board though. Any dimensions I can get before molding?

Looking good, what material is that you're machining?
I pour urethane blocks and there is some waste involved, but it machines very clean and I usually only have minor post cleanup.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

UPDATE! The ball is starting to really roll now!
Finally getting to the meat of the build, here is the front/body section of the Rifle with the detail cut outs.

Rifle front/body top 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
All those strips! This is the various parts I table sawed to get angles and bevels for the entire length of the Rifle.

Rifle front/body top parts by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
This took some figuring to get sort of the right proportions, things are getting off of the original measurements. man I hope I haven't miscalculated something...

Rifle mid sections layout by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
My friend let me have some lathe time, so I did these real quick. Still have to machine grooves in the barrel tip. I want to cut out the center of the flashlight and replace with clear parts as well.

Barrel and flashlight 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
The assembled front/body top, sorry for the blurry pic, was in too much of a hurry.

Rifle front/body top 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
I realized that the slot was only on the one side and dumb me, I cut it out of both sides! I patched it with a layer of glue, then I will bondo and sand it like I need to do on the top as well.

Rifle front /body top 3 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
The middle section of the body in progress, these are 1/8" thickness pieces as apposed to the rest which I am using 3/16".

Rifle outer cover 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
A test fit for the mid section stuff at the pack end. I had to do a fair amount of re sanding on angles to make it all work right.

Rifle Middle test fit 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
Here is a test fit with the flash light and barrel tip I machined, what do you think?

Rifle Front test fit 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
Next up, finishing the front/body. Thanks for watching, and feel free to leave comments and critiques!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

Loving it so far! Did you notice the texture in the grip is actually made up of tiny Magpul logos?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

I did! And man was that a Bitch to replicate!! That alone took almost a week of modeling to get something close.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

If you could make the stock hollow that would be plenty of room to house a soundboard and battery pack to power the gun. It would be great if Majenko could build a board with sounds from the movie for this.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

I think I can do this! I'm already looking at casting in color, so there will be separate tops and bottoms for access.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

BIG UPDATE! Ok folks, I'm VERY CLOSE to the molding stage on this and I need to see who is serious.:)

Price will be $300.00 plus shipping for the kit. I will be coloring the casts, so the lower parts will be in dark grey, the upper in light grey and some parts in black. I don't know how many total parts yet, but trust me, I will be letting everyone know as soon as all the masters are done.

I will update the first post tomorrow with the list of interested parties. I need a non-refundable deposit of $150.00 for molding costs, I can't go thru with this as a run unless I get a minimum of 10 people who pay the deposit, but if there is any indication so far, I think we'll meet that and exceed it. If I can't get the 10 people, the deposits will be refunded. Please paypal to: wondersquid23@yahoo.com.

The only things left to build are the scope, clip, trigger and some pieces to seal the side vents with. There is some work left to do on the flashlight and barrel, but they are close. As to questions of whether it will work as a shroud for the airsoft, I don't know, I would need an airsoft to check it against, but I will be molding the majority of the Rifle in a hollow fashion, so it might be a possibility.

Here are the latest build pics, as always comments and critiques are always welcome.

The Butt of the Butt! I cut it out of 3/4" MDF and sanded it at an angle

Rifle Butt 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Then I sanded all the edges to soften the shape.

Rifle Butt 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The Butt itself is made from strips like the rest of the body, again careful planning really helped all this to come together.

Rifle Butt 3 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The assembled piece after I did some cutting and added another inner part.

Rifle Butt 4 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

I bondo to fill large holes in the sides. Here's a pro tip: Put as much bondo on as you want, BUT trim it early!

Rifle Butt 5 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Here I let the bondo set just barely, then I went in with an xacto and trimmed it all square and nice. And I didn't have to do a ton of sanding and shaping.

Rifle Butt 6 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The whole Rifle laid out to see before detail priming and sanding.

Rough Assembly 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Obviously I have to make the scope and plates to seal the side holes, but all in all, coming together very nicely.

Rough Assembly 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

I realized that if I split the body along the color line i could mold it easier as smaller parts

Rifle Body Split 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

I actually just carefully bandsawed the piece on it's side and it was very close, not much sanding to straighten out the lines.

Rifle Body Split 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The Butt primed

Rifle Butt 7 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

After I cut it along the color line and started to spot putty

Rifle Butt 8 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Everything is primed and being finish sanded with spot putty.

Parts primed 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Pretty close to mold ready

Parts primed 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

After some detail sanding this is primed and ready for molding.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle

any chance you could mold the metallic parts with metal powder in the resin?

Interesting idea...which parts do you consider metal ones? The barrel and flashlight I see, the handle and clip?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits for molding!

Deposit sent. Really hoping I got that #20 spot!
