Obi-Wan Kenobi ROTS Costume Tips

As you know, or do not know, I am wedding in Dec this year and I am planning a SW Wedding. I will enter the church as Obi-Wan Kenobi. I did my first Jedi Knight costume for 2002 AOTC. Last year I built a new one for the ROTS Avant premier and for obvious reasons I will be doing a new one :)

So, I stared this week to join all the parts I will need. I bought last year DAG book limited edition, so I have the fabric samples, something I did not have last time I did one. I know where to buy the boots. I am doing the belt and pouches my self. I am planning to buy a mistykmerchant wool robe. I bought the cotton one last year and I am really happy with the quality, so the only part missing is the fabric for the tunic.

I have the sample from for DAG book. Does anybody know about a close fabric? what about the brown fabric for the shirt? I will start looking at the shops this week. It is very hard in Argentina to get imported fabrics. I will really appreciate your help.

PS: I have the MR Obi-Wan ROTS LE saber hilt too.
PS1: This is me and my future wife Rebeca.

Check www.costumebay.com His stuff looks pretty good but I haven't personally bought from him.
he should have a link to his ebay store, if not it's called "pan in the box" and I think his ebay id is javierschool.

Wes, I know this guy from eBay. Do not get me wrong, but He is the last person I will contact for something. Thanks anyway 4 your post. I knew people who bought from him in the past. Not good references and inaccurate props. Anyway, his work is not at discussion here.

No sweat man. Like I said, I haven't bought from him, just seen pictures of his stuff.
There used to be a site callled "Clonez Studios". I don't know what happened to their site, but the suits were top notch. I had the Obi Wan and it was VERY nice.

Keep checking ebay. Or check out Captain Carter. She is a member here so you can look her up. I've seen pics of her stuff too, and it looks great. I don't know what her schedule is like, but I wouldn't think December would be a problem. Then again, you'd have to ask her.

Wes, Yeah Cap Carter, I heard a lot from her. Even I visited her website from time to time. The problem is that my mom offered to do the costume. I can refuse such a privilege, If you know what I mean :) and I am looking for the fabric. If can find the right fabric, I will contact someone like Cap Carter. Thanks 4 your tip. I really appreciate your help.

Greetings.
Yesterday I went to the fabric stores and I found two of the fabrics. The tunic fabric is a piece of work, but I think I found a good replacement. I took photos with and without flash. I am very excited about it. As you know, the photos won't show u the real color and pattern, but will give you a good chance to compare. I took with me the samples from the Dressing A Galaxy book in that quest. It was very easy this time. Enjoy them.

Is the Ep1 Obi-Wan tunic fabric the same? I am going to be doing an Ep1 Obi-Wan down the line and might be interested in the fabric you found if you have any extra.

foxbatkllr,
No. The Ep1 tunic fabric was Indian homespun fabric ( or something like that). We call it Bambula in Argentina. It was made of cotton. I have some samples of bambula at home. I will take some pictures and post them here for you. It is a very common fabric in Indian stores. They sell tunics in several colors. The color for Ep1 is natural or butter. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help. Pics would be nice. I've seen "indian homespun" referenced before but never have I seen pics or a place to buy it.

We have a lot of that here, and I do not know why, cause we do not have a big Indian community in Argentina :) Very funny. Well, I know why, cause that fabric is great to do shirts for summer season. I will post them here ASAP.

Actually there is some doubt on whether Indian Honespun was used for Obi-Wan at all. The fabric is bastically he same ripple loose weave in all three prequels, leading most to believe that while yes its Cotton, that its not nessesarily HomeSpun.

The quote came from a production designer and never from Trisha Biggar. Its akin to people saying Anakin's tabards are synthetic because teh VD states it thus.

I agree that I will never be able to get the film screen used fabric. That's is for sure. I am one of those who believe that Anakin Tabards are synthetic cause I have the sample ( this is for another thread) :) But I will tell you that: Indian Homespun is not the "model", It is just the type or kind. Some guys call it Khaki. Here is a link where talks about it:

http://www.strangelandcostumes.com/faq.html
http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/mp/2003...10900620200.htm

Hope that helps. We have several types of Bambula in Argentina. But I will tell you this: I am sure EP1 fabric was not used on Ep2 and Ep3. I am 99% sure that ep2 and ep3 fabrics are the same. I did not have the chance to assist to any exhibit yet :(

Hope that helps.

and, I am not quite sure but I read the term "Indian Homespun" in the DAG book. I will check it again. I could be wrong too. I read it last night before I bought the fabrics. We will see.

I don't recall reading it in the DAG book, I also have it...As for Anakins tabs, its Lambskin, Trisha herself confirmed it was leather, plus after seeing the real ones in person and having teh swatch in hand there is no way its synthetic, its merely the Visual Dictionary stating thus, like Jocasta Nu having a lightsaber or a screw on Han Solos Blaster being a "Low Power Pulse Indicator" ;)

U were right. She mentioned India as a place where they bought some fabric on the Behind the Seams from the DAG book. About the Anakin Tabs they are great news. My swatch is white at the back, very rare. I do not have anyone here to compare it :(. Anyway, what do you think about the fabric I found for the Obi-Wan tunic?

The fabric looks good, not 100% perfect but it should look great.

The other fabrics also look nice. Whats the fabric like in your area?

Don't forget the inner tunic looks like this, if you are going for super accurate ;)

Bet I will. My future wife told me that the fabric I bought It is too shiny. :( Since I do not have a sample, only a picture of it, could you tell me If the color is close to one used for the robe? Is it me or the robe sample is backwards like the one for the pants? I will really appreciate your help on this.

About the tunic fabric, I am still looking for a good one. I took some pictures of bambula that I will post in Monday.

Now that I saw this picture and compared the texture/pattern displayed in the DAG samples picture, Could this fabric be cotton? cause the effect at the wrist. It is not possible with silk or crep.

The colours look good, hard to say without seeing it in person.

The inner tunic sleaves do that simply because they are made longer than the hand a good 3-4 inches and then pushed over thehand and rests on teh wrist just like that. So the effect works with all materials. My inner tunic is exactly like Anakin's, and is Silk Crepe, and works great ;)

Today I received an email from a great guy in the states, who told me that jersey has the same pattern and he was right. I bought crep jersey, so I will try cotton jersey. Cotton jersey is not shinny, so will do the trick. I am still do not know the real color. But I think It is a touch darker than the one used the robe. The outer brown robe color I mean. Any help you will be welcome.
