Just arrived in the mail. Superb condition for their age. Sharp edges, bright and shiny.

    [attachmentid=5481]

Question is, which one do I put on my saber - hot or cold?

    [attachmentid=5482]

    EDIT.
Okay - after cleaning these with my fingernail I've just discovered they can be taken apart. Between the black arrows is the gap seen in the pictures of this prop we all know so well, just below the cubes. There's two of these opposite each other, and they're around .5mm wider that the base of a cube.

    [attachmentid=5483]

My long, long search is finally over.
    Howard. :)

Those got shipped to your house? They were supposed to be sent over to my house. Tell you what, I'll just PM you my address and pay for shipping, you can just send them right over.....

Did I mention I hate you? j/k :) Looking great BTW.

Obi-Wans Saber blade is blue, so cold side if it were me.

I agree, cold is the proper one to use...

Then you can send me the unused hot one.

But a saber cuts and toasts the bread at the same time, so it must be the hot one, does it not? ;)

Or at least send the parts to a machinist so that you can provide interested folks with an uber-accurate reproduction.

Great find, anymore where those came from?

EDIT: If you are going for the Tunisia look, you need not reverse the cubes.

I think I've also found a pair of these but they are in pretty bad condition. I'm still trying to arrange a time to go and get them from the guy. I bought him a brand new pair of tap handles in exchange :)

EDIT: I could always sand them and get them rechromed if they are the right ones.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe it's actually found. It's definitely the right one. Amazing, simply amazing. Now we need to know what the emitter is and we're done on our quest to find out the original parts used. Now I want one....someone got to recast that for us folks....Say is it chromed plastic or metal?

Great to know it has two side to the broken ring. Thanks, chen.

Is the gear correctly ID'd yet?
Oh and Howard, very cool find man. So all these plastic AS wheels were just too new?

No it hasn't but we have a good replica from RE and I think that's good enough. In my opinion it's harder to track the right gear piece than the pommel, chen.

OMFG. Congratulations on this incredible find..
Somewhere out there, Serafino's ears are burning. :lol

I hope you consider using the 2nd one for reproduction purposes. (ie: cast or laser scanned for rapid prototyping). It's a finite market and I don't think reproducing a found part steps on any toes. Definitely something to consider.
Now, show that baby next to the Chronicles pic, please... :)

I'm considering a run off this find - so stay tuned. I'll need to talk to a couple of people first...

Serafino's in New York city this weekend and will be back Monday, he's well aware of this - but I'm thinking he may chime in if he finds time to get to a cafe.

The main body of the part is plastic as speculated, although the threaded part (the bottom of the pommel end) is metal, the cap, plastic.

I'll get a comp pic up later with Roman's.

Thanks for your compliments and replies guys.

    Howard. :)

Yes, I'd like to see comparison pics with my pommel. If you don't have my latest version I'll take and post pics to match your pictures.

Great find. BTW - Is it a sure thing that the "gear" part is really a gear? I have seen heat sinks that look very similar to that part of the Obi saber.

    I have no time, but

    :D :D :D :D :D

Howard that additional detail of the 'gap' is even better than I'd thought. Based on the previously posted one I had thought that to be something added when the cubes were reversed. Utterly fantastic find.. Even better that the cubes are so easily reversed..

Note how the angled 'groove' which no one ever executed is created by how the bottom of the 'cube' section relates to the butt when reversed. :D

It looks like my early sense that there remained some taper in the flat surfaces between the cubes may have been correct, but I'll have to wait until I can look more closely.

    I'm off to the Met...

Obviously some of the pommel theories can be put to rest now.

Pommel cubes upside down - CONFIRMED
Handwhell is actually an older model of AS (Rather than an different brand)- CONFIRMED

How did you happen to find these?.

    Thanks DS.
I found these on eBay. The week following the close of the auction up to delivery was the longest of my life.

Serafino - you're exactly right concerning the angled groove.
Now these are cleaned up they really do glow with beauty. Quite a few complex angles going on - oh, and the area between the cubes is flat, as you said back on ASAP.
Last night I was sitting at my desk twirling one in my hand when my wife appeared behind me. She broke off from whatever she was going to say and took the pommel.
'You know these are really nice, so, so tactile,' she said copying my twirling. She stopped and looked at me. 'They're much better than the taps in our bathroom.'
I just shot her my best 'Spock' eyebrow and took the pommel back.

The sharpness of the cube corners really gives them a medieval 'mace' like quality - as if within the confines of the rest of the saber design, this was as far as the design could go to achieve a pommel that was functional as a weapon in itself.

Hey Howard, still havent figured out if Obi Wans saber was HOT or COLD???

Anyhow, for your consideration I noticed this -

(It may just be glare but who knows)

King of looks like light reflecting off of the bottom legs of the letter "h" (yellow), and a long traight glare off of the side of the "h" (red)

BTW, does the HOT knob have a red rim and the COLD knob have a blue rim??

    Howard, you're a GOD.

But maybe you knew that. ;)

One thing bothers me-- in the following pic (not yours, I know), the concave pillar under the handwheel pretty closely matches the transition part between the handwheel and the gear-- did you get stiffed?

SUPER find-- your hard work has paid off. Salutations.

The common AS handwheel wasn't accurate... The one Howard found is dead on accurate.

Looks like AS slightly changed their design over the years.

Well - yeah :$ kinda more like a demi really, KD :D
    *. You're right - I got stiffed. I'm sending these suckers back for a refund. ;)
Okay, I see what you mean about the transition between the handwheel and the gear. So now we need the correct taps. :lol
    Cheers as always.
    Howard.
