Question Not able to staying logged in? (find answers here)

Re: Forced logouts now?

Yay! I'm not the only one. Seems the "Remember Me" function doesn't work. Hasn't worked for a few days.

Re: Forced logouts now?

Ok, ive heard clearing the cookies works.... but.... im afraid it will force me out of every forum im a member of and ill have to sign in again..... as a member of at least 15 sites I might have forgotten one or two of those passwords.... one site doesnt even have a "forgot my password" option so I'd be SCREWED if that happens

Re: Forced logouts now?

Ya, I was on here only about an hour ago, logged in with the Remember Me box, and had to log in again just now...

what's up?

Firefix user?

If so, Click Tools-Options and then click on the Privacy tab...

Look for the link on that window called 'remove individual cookies' click it...

Scroll down to therpf.com and highlight it and click the "Remove Cookie" button, DON'T click the remove all cookies button...

Been a long time since I used IE, but I believe the cookies are still stored in the cache file folder, you can simply navigate to them in the Windows Explorer and delete individual ones like files...

On side note I don't know if this is really fixing he problem just yet, would need confirmation that the forum is placing a new good cookie... *Edit I just looked at the new cookie the forum dropped it appears to be a 6 month expiring cookie now so it appears fixed...

Re: Forced logouts now?

I hope the admins aren't ignoring this problem because a few people say that deleting cookies worked. Because there are a few of us, myself included, for whom deleting cookies does NOT work.

Exo says it's fixed... I guess we'll see in the morning if I have to login again.

It appears to be 'fixed' from what I can see, I won't know for certain unless it does or doesn't log me out in time, so far so good with a cookie purge...

FYI the cookie issue is across ALL vBulletin upgraded forums not just this forum, they (vBulletin) changed the cookie hash to make it harder to brute force, this change invalidated the old cookies stored on your computer...

As Montagar posted the upgrade appears to have also reset the cookie expiration to 30 minutes or what not, maybe it was always that short, who knows... If they have changed that setting in the admin control panel and you purge you existing cookies, you should then get a new valid cookie that will last longer and the 'remember me' option when logging in should then work... In theory of course...

Re: Forced logouts now?

I have to log in after every visit still too?

The cookies thing didn't work for me either. :wacko

Re: Forced logouts now?

Cookie thing doesn't work for me.

Also things like google tool bar spell check no longer work.

Re: Forced logouts now?

It would probably be helpful if those it doesn't work for gave a little info like what browser and version number to see if there's a pattern.

Re: Forced logouts now?

Nope, still not working.. had to re-log this morning. While it may be a VBulletin thing, this isn't the only VB-powered forum I visit, but it's the only one giving me this logon problem.

Re: Forced logouts now?

As mentioned, this problem is the result of installing a recommended security patch. If you are having problems with the RPF but not other vBulletin forums that you vist, it's because they have not installed the patch.

We haven't changed any settings and just so no one thinks that we are attempting to unjustly blame someone else for a problem that we are having, here is a link to the issue on vBulletin's own tech support forum.

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...4-PL2-users-are-having-cookie-re-login-issues

I need to know if anyone with a browser other than IE (Internet Explorer) is still having a problem. I am going to work on the IE problem, but I need to know if other browsers are still having the problem after having cleared out their cookies.

Thank you for your patience, and if you happen to check out the vBulletin link that I posted you will see that we are on our own for the moment in terms of a fix being provided by them.

Re: Forced logouts now?

As people are posting their issues... please keep in mind that the people working on these issues are doing so as volunteers.

Speaking as one who volunteers for a variety of similar projects: getting irritable, complaining about the mods not doing things fast enough, etc... isn't really fair.

When the board wants to hire a 6 figure a year sysadmin, THEN users can complain about quality of support. In the mean time, be sure to cut the admins some slack. ;)

I've been following this thread, doing as has been suggested. But I'm still getting logged out every time I even navigate way from the RPF. I'm using Google Chrome as my primary browser. Hope that helps.

Re: Forced logouts now?

I was having the forced log out problem but after cleaning out my cookies earlier, the problem seems to have cleared up.

Re: Forced logouts now?

I tried deleting the cookie with FF (version 3.5.6) and I am still being forced to log back in. Hope this helps

Re: Forced logouts now?

Also. All those purging the cookies aren't working for... did you purge the cookies while browsing this site... or while not being on the site. I've learned that doing it while being on the site screws up what you are trying to accomplish and doesn't remove the problem. You should not have an RPF window open when purging. If it still doesn't help... well... then I'm out of ideas, as this worked for me and I'm a firefox user.

cripes I spent 40 min on a reply and it logged me out and I lost it! :angry
Usually using the back button should still hold your post in memory... unless... you use something other than Firefox.
