No Time To Die (James Bond 25)

I suppose if race had absolutely no impact on the 00 universe and its just Bond who happens to be black, it could work. This current climate makes it impossible though since the first thing that would be emphasized is that Bond is black, not how talented Idris is and that he is the best fit for the role.
Which is why we need to get rid of this identity politics horse crap entirely.

I found the plot entirely convoluted and the film itself to be way too long. They needed a better editor. Having a weaponized virus at the core of the plot is ironic and quite the coincidence.

Everything you read about the women in this movie is true. The female 007 is just woke bait that I'm not going to bother mentioning. I'll only say that I found the character fairly boring instead of frustrating.

The other female agent who was new to the job and yet fought with the grace of a prima ballerina didn't fit in to this gritty world wherein Bond is nearly killed in the first film.

The ending was predictable considering Craig had the same death wish for his character as Harrison had for Han and I assume that, in part, was a major factor in his return.

Overall, I didn't enjoy the movie but I understand why many will. I honestly don't see how this character can continue to exist as invented by Fleming in this era.

I won’t give my thoughts on the movie in case spoilers are verboten, but just a side thought on characters. When the scriptwriter had a lightbulb moment and decides ‘yes, a black, female 00 agent’, do they give any thought on where that character’s Backstory has come from? Was she ex-military, or university graduate given gun training? how has she gotten to where she was at her age? I felt there was no investment in her character arc, therefore I had no interest in her.

Just saw it again for the second time, still feel like it’s the greatest Bond film yet, just beating OHMSS

I’ve rewatched all Bond films (including NSNA) on the build up to No Time To Die, so they are fresh to me

This one is beautifully filmed, homages given to previous films, but goes into a direction that Bond movies really hasn’t since OHMSS

I saw it last night and enjoyed it immensly. Very good work by all involved. Just the right tone of seriousness against humour and action against pathos. If I have one criticism it's perhaps that they didn't give Rami malek enough screen time.

and the giant rabbit at the end was inspired!

All of that is for the upcoming 007 movies. This was just an introduction.

Outstanding movie! Great characters and action, a moving story, and a thoughtful ending to the Daniel Craig Bond era.

Was there any backstory for Sean Bean's 006 in 'Goldeneye' or the 009 (dressed as a clown) in 'Octopussy'

She is just another 00 agent, assigned 007 in Bonds absence

Whether she is re-assigned as 007 in the next film, who knows, but the last words on screen when 'No Time To Die' ends are...
...'James Bond will Return'

My guess,....the next film will start with a 00 agent on a mission, when he returns to M, he informs him that he will be assigned a new 00 number, 007,...Codename James Bond

Hated it. It certainly isn't any better than Spectre to me. As much as I hated Spectre, I thought it at least had a more traditional Bond movie structure than No Time To Die. Spectre at least gave us a proper gunbarrel sequence and a fantastic pre-title sequence. No Time To Die couldn't even give us those. So I really don't get why people say it's a (slightly) better movie than Spectre.

And the movie didn't have homages, they were purely fan service a la JJ Abrams.

Enjoyed it. I wasn't bothered by any supposed "wokeness" or whatever.
In addition to the obvious use of "All the Time In the World" I enjoyed the nod to Barry's theme for OHMSS as well.
The portraits of Judi Dench and Bernard Lee were a nice touch.
And the multicolored dot graphics? Dr. No, baby!

It opened with one straight away like most of the films. What about it was less than proper?

a chace sequence with a ton of action, not sure what you mean here either. You don't have to like it of course, but I don't see the problem. Too much character plot mixed in? That it had more to do with the main plot than they usually do, perhaps?

NTTD's gunbarrel had no dripping blood.

Yes, there was an action packed chase sequence, but the pre-title sequence started out with a flashback that didn't involve Bond. The part of it that did involve Bond dragged and dragged until we finally see the action sequence. Spectre's pre-title by comparison was more the traditional type pre-title sequence, which was short, involved plenty of action, and ends with a miraculous escape for Bond. Its too bad the movie went downhill as soon as Sam Smith opened his gob.

I'm still reeling, but I'm sure ardent Bond fans noticed that at the "tribute drink" they said James 6 times... Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, Craig.

I avoided all spoilers leading to this. The film itself I found very "meh". Once again a neutered and flat Blofeld, Malik was great but under used... But that ending. I actually saw James Bond die on screen. I don't care that this was a Craig arc, I don't care if he demanded it, I should NEVER see that.

James Bond is eternal, he saves the world in every era regardless of political climate. It could be the year 3000 and he'd still be doing it. Now it seems we're doomed to endless reboots and re-imaginings going forward. Bond trancends that! This film's ending was a travesty.

I'll be seeing it again on Monday with my oldest son who had to miss it today due to hockey. Maybe my view will change, but I doubt it. Not sure I give two hoots about Bond anymore going forward.

Saw it last night with some friends. Still processing, but I think I enjoyed it. I thought it had a nice balance between typical Bond elements and mixing in new stuff. Definitely went a different direction than previous iterations with that ending.

While I was familiar with the Bond franchise (I’m named after Sean Connery), Craig really drew me in. I preferred the dark and gritty take on the character as opposed to some of the more fantastical iterations.

Craig also had me rethink my entire approach to my wardrobe. I just love the style they used for him - a perfect blend of classical elements combined with modern trends.

Overall, I enjoyed his stint as 007, and I thought NTTD was a fitting wrap up.

Looking forward to seeing who takes the torch next…

A genuinely really fun movie that is perhaps a little long, but shot excellently with plenty of punch and wit. The new 007 is exactly what I’d thought she be, minus one thing: she’s just as arrogant, uncharismatic, and generally uninteresting to watch, but she’s also somewhat incompetent as a spy. I figured it would really be an “old dog can’t learn new tricks” kind of story with Bond constantly falling behind the new agent, but that wasn’t the case. I did not like her but she didn’t ruin the movie for me, as she really doesn’t feature that prominently to be honest. The music was great, I’m honestly surprised Hans Zimmer hadn’t done one of the Craig films already. Some of the Cuba music was particularly fun. Some of the comments from others here who have seen the movie make me laugh, mostly at the “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” of it all. Old Bond fans (tend to) complain that Craig is brutal, charmless, and too gritty—this film has a lot more wit, as well as some true-to-style cheesy Bond one-liners, and I already see people complaining the “film isn’t consistent with the real world/earlier Craig films”. Overall, it won’t convince anyone who’s already made up their mind on the film/Craig/modern action/etc., but if you go in with an open mind you’ll probably have a lot of fun.

This probably doesn't need spoiler tags but just in case...

I felt the plot was far too convoluted with too many unnecessary characters, the "enemy" poorly defined, and we seemed to jump from location to location willy-nilly.

There was no clear path through the story, we tumbled into each set piece and from there watched things go wrong. Constant confusing curve balls dragging James in a new direction. It felt like a scene couldn't end without a twist.

Bond's replacement has been a talking point but my biggest problem with her was how poorly she was written. She was not treated like a "00", nor did she act like one. Sweep a cell for bugs?! That's a job for a tech, something Bond would never have been asked to do. Does her presence contribute anything to the plot?

I was really looking forward to this, had avoided all trailers and spoilers but in the end was disappointed. I have enjoyed Daniel Craig's depiction of Bond but I feel Casino Royal was the high point.
