-1.jpgSo I have a few costumes I am working on at the moment. Ironman, Man of Steel, winter soldier... Got a call to make some ninja turtle costumes real quick. So figured I'd give you guys a look into what goes into a speed build. If you never saw my Captain America build, it's here http://www.therpf.com/f24/my-captain-america-tfa-wip-152030/ with the final product here... http://www.therpf.com/f67/captain-america-first-avenger-tfa-cosplay-180295/

So I like high quality, and taking my time. Let's see if I can make myself happy with these with budget and time constraints. :)

So making the shell from foam. Then making the plates from foam. pretty much foam foam foam. I am building the arms from the Marvel Hulk costume. Bulky, yet lightweight, and pretty great coloring. I am cutting the legs off of that and attaching them to where the pants were since I cut them off. I will make new lower leg pieces that will attach with the shoes.

Thanks guys. I'm not basing it off anything in particular. I'm just using my imagination. So VinceRaptor, I was from your neck of the woods growing up. San Clemente, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Etc... Nice seeing old places.

Question: What exactly did you use for the "shell"?? And are the circles just craft foam and hot glue spirals? What did you use to finish it off? How did you ake the front part??

Okay that's several questions...lol

Hey Griff! some BTTF reference to end the day. ;)
So what I did was use the EVA floor foam mats from Home Depot. They are 2x2 and you get 4 in a pack for $20. Same that a lot of people use for their Ironman Cosplays! Then yes, the craft foam glued on then a hot glue spiral. Then a plastic spray base from Rust-O-Leums line. Squash yellow then a quick dusting in the edges and muscle creases with their EDEN color. Next step is going to be a brown wash for aging and some battle damage.

Very nice! I made one of these last year. I used a plastic trash can as the base to mount the thick foam to in order to make the curve easier. Having a plastic material in between foam layers made it easier to bolt on the stomach and sides. I could not take a chance on letting it fall apart so I glued and bolted. Not hijacking here....just adding possible advice. I used the same type of hot glue technique on the back of the shell and turned out well

Hi there,

How did you manage the torso front? It looks like the abdomen is a single piece of EVA with the muscles carved in--how thick is the foam if that's the case? I'm making a Samus Aran build and trying to figure out how to swing the abdomen while still being able to bend over--harder than you would think! If the above is flexible, I would consider trying this route.
