Nike Mag V2 Mod Discussion (Page 58 Shopping List)

I painted them grey - the silver was very bright. Would have preferred to get rid of the texture as well but that was too much effort. :D The triangle is just a cover I put on the shoes, because the left shoe has a heel cup from a right shoe, and the led bubble thing is then on the inside of the shoe. So I just put triangles on both sides where the led bubble thing is to cover that it was wrong.

Yeah if I can get my hands on a pair to mod, I would replace the crap elastic with good stuff, cut the toe along the seam and push the top part into the mid-sole, then coat the entire shoe (including the the sewn lace holes) with tinted, flexible polyurethane. This would cover the seams and lose that swirl effect. I have the US8 uppers, but cut too much off the toe and don't think it could be rebuilt to be wearable.

I'd definitely put Glow on the sides of the soles too.

I got to see a pair of the SPORTS MAGs on the weekend. These are better looking that the HC MAGs as they are much closer in shape to the V2. I didn't even really notice the mis-match fabric. The cuff is actually nicer than the V2 cuff because it slimmer and sits flatter.

Anyway, here is where I am up to on the new molds.

The new small ankle buckle is now half sealed. This has cured, so tomorrow, I will flip it over, slice out the bottom of the butter box and dig out all clay. Then I spray the silicone with mold release and fill it up with more silicone. The way I designed this is so that the butter box acts as a "jacket" to hold the two halves together. This will be filled from the ends of the part so that the rubber runs down and fills the mold as the level rises.

And the new hell cup bubbles. These are more curved than the bubbles in my shoes and don't stick out as far. The finish is also frosted and there is 3 slots for LEDs in the back of each. I worked out that I need to side fill these to not trap air. I have another larger mold with 4 parts. I will see if I can mod that mold to fill the same way.

Can't wait for these new parts !

As I mentioned, I went to the Gold Coast SupaNova over the weekend and whilst I was walking around, a professional photographer asked if he could take photos of my shoes.

He got right down on the ground and stated that "anyone who doesn't know what is so important about these shoes should not be here".

Today I did more work on the new cups. Hopefully you can see where I am going with this.

Question about re-painting the sole...

Do I need to sand the sole to get a better result or is it ok (for the long term) to paint directly on them with some leather paint ?
(I guess it is the same as the angelus paintings that I have - it just says "leather paint" on it)

Thanks ;)

I used Angelus paint for the soles and I think it's a good paint (for the long term I guess) but mainly for display.
If you want to wear them, you should make some tests with sanding before, the result should be better.

Merci Vormz ;)

yes, want to wear them ^^
anyone here with an experience of painting soles and wearing them ?

Was it you that asked me about the splatter on my MAG on Instagram?
Mine is actually the rubber used for the clear soles that is left over. Rather than waste it, if I have a pair in need, I scrape it into a cup, add a pigment and let it set up well into gel state. Now it is a really tacky mess. Using the end of a chop stick, I scoop some up and just touch the blob to the shoe and lift it off really fast. Because it is so sticky, some grabs and as I lift, causes the string effect of the "tails". When the mix is right, you get the blobs actually creating texture. It is such a fine window of time for this to work which is why I have done mine several times now, redoing parts I didn't like.

so will these be like one size fits all ?

Hmmmmmm..........so there's a pair of RD Mags on eBay for $2500, I would've snapped them up but the seller has 0 items sold and 0 feedback. Too risky yeh!?

I scrubbed, dried and repainted my midsoles with a water-based light grey 'fabric paint' from Ebay which i watered down to ensure the texture of the midsole would not be affected. It wears away a bit on the bottom of the sole, with walking, (not a particularly hard paint, but flexible) and the upper has never cracked. I have no idea where the can/bottle is at the moment though..... I never sanded them though i suppose i might have been able to do a VERY fine sanding.....

On the V2, it is one size fits all. So given that I used the V2 heel cups as a base, then I guess these will be the same. The only one snag these may present is if you get a glue line from your factory part on removal on the wing in the lights side, you may see that as I have shaped that part to be lower like the real shoe. On a scratch built upper, this won't be a problem.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Market value on these shoes is over $6500 (average), so $2500 seems a bit low. It would be nice if someone paid $2500 and just wanted their money back. Most will profit on these and rightly so. There are/were an investment, so should give a positive return on a re-sell.

Will the lettering be molded into the heel cup itself?

Yes it will. These will be cast in either the same light grey I use (for those that already have or want to paint their mid-soles) or a darker grey that matches the V2 mid-sole. The purchaser will have to decide on which option will work best for them. I don't think I will be offering the pigmented letters like I am currently doing kits for because of the extra time and mess around it creates. Besides, the MAG is supposed to be the same colour as the splatters, so I doubt many will want my colour anyway as it closer to the 1989 movie shoe than the 2011 shoe.

De-molded the ankle buckle mold today. I have shot a YouTube video which should be up in a few hours.

If you are molding letters will each letter be applied onto the master heel cup then molded so it gives it a seamless look like the RD shoes ?
