Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

when i bought them i actually didn't even know the voltages,

and also, in my previous post i actually got the voltage wrong on the green ones,

i emailed the seller after i posted, and they said all the leds they sent me are the same voltages, 1.8v to 2.2v, red, green and yellow

I got them from this seller "Bright Components"
Combined, 1206 items in bright components store on eBay!

i just emailed them and asked for about 50 leds of 3mm diffused yellow, green and red.

They said the Ultra bright ones they sell are the ones which are 3.2 to 3.8v.

I also found some leds called "Kingbright" brand, which are 3mm diffused and have low current of 1.9v
Kingbright 3mm Low Current Diffused LED Green 10 Pack | eBay

you can get kingbright 3mm diffused leds from lots of places, and the red, green and yellow seem to same voltages.

Thanks for that info! I just ordered a couple mixed packages of red, green and yellow from the "Bright Components" store. All 2v. Reasonable shipping across the pond, too.

Brad is right that all these mod items really add up. I've got everything but the wire glue and Loctite, and it's totaling $143 so far. (supplies for 2 pairs)

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

i was hoping someone could help me.

im trying to work out the resistors required for a 3v battery, not 3.6v or 3.7v

leds are 2.2v max
soldered in parallel.

not sure whats the formula to work this out?
thanks

hi
could you help me calculate which resistor to get?
im experimenting with a plain 3v battery setup, not 3.6v or 3.7v just yet.

so im trying to work out what resistors i would need when they are in parallel.

i thnk these are the leds i got sent by bright components,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30-x-3mm-...al_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item460adc3eed

standard red, yellow and green leds, it says forward voltage is 2v.

Yep, it's not cheap. Then add in all the time it takes to do these mods and if you screw up one thing, you're done.

And some people want these modded shoes for an extra $100 or so over the cost of the shoes....:facepalm

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I messaged the Koko store Jedifyfe linked asking if restocking would take a month or more and he was pretty certain that it will be next week. After hearing stories on here, I'm pretty skeptical, but anything can happen I guess.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Yeah. Seeing as he is the most popular seller that I know of, they will keep trying to get as much business as they can.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Do the fake nike logos on the V2s glow in the dark, or was that just photoshopped?

There are various LED calculator websites, and the first few I looked at didn't let you specify series or parallel. This one does:

LED Resistor Calculator

In the top of that parallel section if you enter 3v supply, 2v drop per LED, 20mA current, and 4 LEDs connected, that'll give you the resistor spec you need.

it comes up with 15 ohm resistor , 1/8W required.

do you think that is right?

thanks

Even with my limited knowledge on this stuff, that sounds right to me. The "normal" formula doesn't work, as in when using a 9v battery you would take
[9v battery - (4 x 2v LED)] / .02 = 50 ohm resistor.
(where .02 is the 20mA current)

In Brad's case, he must be using 2.2v LEDs as that in the formula gives you 10 ohm resistors.

Obviously, you can't start that equation with 3v as you get into negative numbers, so that's why I went with the calculator website. The reason 15 ohm sounds right to me is that it's telling me 51 ohm for the same 4 LEDs (in series) with a 9v battery. 3v is 1/3 of 9v, and 15 ohm is about 1/3 of 51 ohm.

That said, I see that if you enter the same info in the parallel section with a 9v battery, it tells you to use a 100 ohm resistor. Heh, just when I thought I was beginning to understand this stuff..... Oh well, surely these calculators know what they're talking about though.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

They look good Zo. Toe mod and EL in the strap. Did you add an extra battery for the strap?
