Cool, I've been looking for some vegan leather for a while, but didn't find anything :/"Vegan Leather". This looks, feels and even smells like real leather.
Any link ? I'm curious about thisFound a really cool YouTube video where this podiatrist explained the 6 points on the sole.

If I could get my pair of size 9 apart, I would probably try something like this in real leather.
Those grey-sole HC are glued together like crazy.
They are, but you need to know how to get them apart
Start at the Heel Cup. If you can get that opened up, you will be able to use the sole of the shoe as a lever to get the upper completely off. You will of course need heat.
I'll try that next time I make the effort. I went at it toe first, and they do not come apart that way. At least not my pair.
The toe is where these are glued down the best. If you wanted to slim the toe without removing the upper completely, then you need to start just in front of the laces and heat lightly, then (I did mine this way) use a plastic ruler and just scrape away the melted glue. You work only a small spot until you can get your finger in there. From there, with a little bit of heat, these just pull apart.
Most of the glue is a gel type adhesive, but in at least 3 points, they have used a liquid superglue. These points sometimes even tear the rubber of the mid-sole.
My best effort has been to separate the toe from the wall of the midsole. But where the wall meets the floor of the midsole. It will not separate no matter how much I try.
I would very much have liked to just do a sock-toe on it and call it good, but I just couldn't get into the things.
The construction of the HC should be the same as the V2 - pink cardboard as the sole of the upper. Once you get the side wall off, the rest should just peel away.
Did a heap more to the vegan leather pair and in the end, nothing I am happy enough with to show here. Not a wasted day, but would be nice to show progress. Those tongues are labor intensive. Glad I never volunteered to make them.
I wish it were that easy. My pair seems to be even more glued underneath the sidewall. If I could sock toe them I'd have another pair I could wear.
I see lots of sneakers with leather tongues. They just leave the edge raw instead of trimming it. Might be something to consider.
I am thinking that for this first pair, yes. Maybe I need to just let go and dumb the whole thing down. This is DIY, so as I get better, I can add more details in future versions.
Thoughts before I get back into these today...
I am sure we all have out reasons for liking the MAG, where most love the lights. For me, it is all about the shape of the shoe and lack of visible stitches. For those who remember the shoes from the 1980s and 1990s, many shoes seems to be an almost patchwork of small parts sewn together. It seem the more details, the better the shoe would be received. Me personally, I preferred the clean look of a military boot Vs the patchwork of a sneaker. That MAG had it all - a sneaker with a clean profile.
Whilst I am going to do my best to replicate the double folds and hide all the stitching, being a "leather" pair, is it permissible to have exposed edges?
My main concern is around the tight recess on the front edges of the collar. Everything else should be OK.
I was thinking about something like that myself. Just do a super-simple build, and learn how to get that body shape down. I'll have to go back and find those patterns that were posted.
On a related note. My town is having it's first ever sneaker convention this weekend. I'll be wearing my HC Mags with Poon decals and my friend will be wearing Reebok Pumps. Even though the HC are not the ideal replica, they're still a big hit and get a huge reaction from people. It should be a lot of fun.
Yep know what you mean, always loved the clean look. Started collecting sneakers around 1990 (junior high) when my Dad got me the original Reebok Pumps. It's finally becoming popular now to have a minimum number of physical joins (the Adidas NMD's I got are quite good that way, just the one covered join at the heel, really and they have a sock toe to them too) but I've always been happy enough without the lighting, (as I started adding MAGs to my collection since the MP's - just really liked the shape, (pity most had a boot toe) and of course the no laces of the MAGs. It's the future, we should have something better than the laces we've been using for over a hundred years!
If you need me to post the patterns up, let me know. What I probably should do is a MAG Pattern discussion thread so we can all put our $0.02 and nut these out. Maybe you guys can see something I am missing.
That could work. Maybe get some input from people who have done the upper already.
I'm personally interested in trying my hand at some DIY shoe building, not necessarily just the MAG.
