Question for all those who have painted their mags' midsole. Which paints seem to hold up best over time? Also do you recommend sanding down the midsole at all?

sanding midsole is not recomanded, one of the best way is to prepare sole with some acetone but becarfull cause acetone is a strong solvant and can't damage the sole if you rub to hard.

For a good result when you paint you need put paint by slihty layer cause if you make to think layer, the paint craking and will peel of -_-.

The paint on midsole is always a problem cause between flexible midsole like air jordan III IV ho the paint will always finish to crack and rip risk on hard rubber like the mag V2 the paint was always subject at bad treatment -_-.

When I first painted mine, I did not sand, rather wiped with a rag wet with acetone. I used a vinyl dye paint, but it cracked anyway.

Hello everyone I just got into this form and I'm wanting to mod my HC Mags to get the toe sliming and I wanted to know which is better ? Steam method or sock toe

When I did mine, I sanded the whole of my midsole to shape it and make it look a bit better. Then I used Angelus paints.

So far....including wearing them to 2 parties recently, the paint has not cracked at all.

About Angelus paint I work with this paint since 2 or 3 years ago and for be sure to have a durable result you need make a verry good prepare on the sole with acetone, and when you paint your shoes (midsole or leather whatever) the secret is to put verry little coat of paint in 3 or 4 pass max.

your sole comes from cavx if yes what version? are they walking shoes or just for exposition?

I used Angelus paint on my vintage Nike Bruins and I can't even get the paint off when I try to dig into it with my fingernail.

My soles are from the first run that cavx did. They have been walked around in quite a lot and have held up well, although one has split on the outrigger but I fixed that with hot glue.

I've also got Cavx's soles from the first batch. I found them great for walking around in, no problems. But if you want to put a pair in the display cabinet, the pics I've seen on this forum of people installing his second run looks even better!
If only I could justify another pair of V2's (and extra soles) to the girlfriend..... lol

Good luck to remove it ... :x
On my flat white painted midsoles (walk on black) i used this with dish soapimages.jpg
but the silicone paint makes it not able to stick as strong as it would on stock surface.

@rhodrijen I noticed that you did the grind down on the back of the heel. That makes them so much better.

I've done this to three pair now.

Superglue also sticks the clear back together should it tear.

I've fully removed mine in readiness for a new pair and EL upgrade and there was a split on the heel on my left. The right had no issue. I think it must be something in the way I walk as both my work shoes and Jordan 8s both broke their connection to the sole on the left shoe.

i have no intention to remove it. It was to make the Nike symbol and back part red because they were originally blue. I also used white on the rest of the shoe because them being so old the white color was fading off a little.

Yeah it does make a huge difference, I spent a lot of time shaping the back of the midsole into the heel cup so that it made the heel cup look more rounded and bigger. Happy with the way that came out as it definitely gives them more of an RD look.

I think the sole tearing was because I didn't grind the outrigger down to make it fit the shoe as much on one side as I did the other. Weirdly it happened while the shoes were stored away in the box, so clearly there was a lot of pressure on there. Either way, I'm still very happy with the soles and the way they look. As you can imagine the shoes were a big hit on Halloween :D

Well I've been saying I was going to do it for a few weeks now and I finally ordered everything I need to do the mods! I'm nervous but pretty excited. My brother in law is going to make a pair for himself along with me and if we feel comfortable enough with it we might start making more for others.

DragonGalvy can you post some pics of your mag I thiking buy me a V1 clear sole for my V2 but I whant be completely sure ^^.

the V1's have a totally different sole shape to the V2's. You won't be able to install a Cavx sole onto the vinyl V1's. Is that what you meant?
(out at the moment might be able to post pic later)

I am looking into making a new part from a mix of both. The side profile shape of the V1 looks closer to the real shoe, but the top profile of the V2 is better. So I will be gluing and filling in a pair of V1 soles with the new V2 soles attached.

ooooooooooo sounds promising i wonder if you could do a clear sole for V1's..... I havent even got round to trying replacing the sole with pyramid mat on mine though lol

I have been looking at the diagrams of how to wire everything together. Is there a chance someone can post photos of the wires and how you split connections and where what wires go to where. Also any tips on the use of wire glue?
