To be clear, I was not necessarily referring to Cavx's new all EL setup. I know that a lot of people have replaced the LEDs in the soles with EL and was wondering if it actually gave them longer run times. Sounds like it does. If so, that's awesome and could make Cavx's new setup, extremely desirable.

So I started this time test @ 3PM October 29, 2015. At the time of posting this, it is now 7:40am, October 30, 2015 and they are still bright enough to seen with the room lights on.

I'd say WIN!

EDIT: and that system is running off 2x AA (3V).

im sorry i havent read this thread entirely through the past couple of days, do you plan on doing a run of these new electronics?

Just pushing the envelope yet again :) Not a "purist" thing, I get that. I want to wear my shoes and when I do, it typically from in the morning to well into the evening.

So I am looking for a much simpler solution to wire in the shoe that also has an extend the battery life.

As it stands, EL/LED combos need separate circuits because the EL is AC and the LEDs are DC. Then you have the issue of a LED burning out, dropping out, running at different brightness etc. Some just heat up, run for a time and then the whole cluster goes. Adding resisters adds bulk to the cluster, more solder joints, more points to fail etc.

So my solution was to run an all EL set up using colour filters for the LEDs. The same circuit now runs everything, so the brightness of the "LED" cluster is the same as the panels in the soles and on the strap.

In a combo EL/LED set up on a 9V system, run times are typically around 5 hours with the LEDs fading out first. Once the LEDs go, the EL will continue to run for a few extra hours.

With this all EL set up on a just 3V, I am coming up on 18 hours of continuous run time. 3V can also mean less heat, less space in the shoe. Ideally a coin cells would be even better, but I have not tested them yet. There is no reason you could not run a 9V on this either as one earlier test got brighter EL illumination and it ran for over 6 hours with no problems. 9V batteries are typically bulky though and usually have to be built into the sole. I want to build all my electronics into the buckle with only a single wire (twin flex) running down the inside of the shoe.

I need to test mine.. with those batteries.. i know theyre not charged all the way though.. i need to wire in the charger..waiting on the protection diode or w.e its called lol

Hey cavx.. you said you used special shrink tubing.. what was it called again???

Heat shrink? You buy it in different sizes and colours at electronic parts suppliers. JayCar for Australia, not sure what the US equivalent might be. Parts Express maybe?

But you said yours was double carbon braided or something...i dont remember lol

No LOL. I just double sheath where I can.
Lmao, i was like damn where did he get that fancy heat shrink lol..i coudnt find it..haha. so you just double up for strength??

Ugh idk what size to order for 24g wire..ill hVe to go get a kit..but i hate that they have those huge sizes i will never need lol

I'm using a really fine wire now, thing 24 gauge.

I like to heat shrink the actual joins, then them over the two joins. As it heats up, it sticks as well.

So I've ordered some V2s from Karin Chen, asked all the questions and got photos of the shoes that I should be getting, checked stock and confirmed they are new in the yellow box with Nike logos etc so will let you know how I go! Fingers crossed!

I wear a size 8 and the only thing holding me back from ordering is being afraid that the V2s will be too big. If I order my regular size of 8 would they really fit that much bigger than normal US size 8?

I'm sure this has been asked and posted before but could someone tell me where I can find the NIKE logo for the strap with the correct dimensions online? My sister has a laser printer at work she's allowed to use so I'm gonna send her the file but I need to find it first :lol

Hey guys been reading this thread for the past two weeks along with a couple others and bought a pair of V2s from Karin this week and all the supplies necessary for the mods except the LED mod supplies. I'm really interested in doing the new EL with the colored panels on the LED spot that Cavx showed a couple posts back. Glad to be apart of this group and looking forward to modding these things when they finally do come in.

Thanks! Printing these on just regular printer paper works fine?
