@cavx

I have the exact same thing. It is really annoying, I've gone through a lot of el trying to figure out whats going on and I suck at making solid connections... Also, on the one shoe it would happen on, it would start dim but would kinda "warm up" and get a little brighter.

Also do you all put the el sheet inside the sole and let the holes give it shape or do you sort of squish the panel between the rubber outsole and the kinda midsole?

I think it was the inverter, not the EL because once I gave it some decent current, it light up really bright. Frustrating though.

When I do my soles, the EL will sit on the outside of the midsole under the clear.

Sometimes inverter circuits have a tendency to not switch on until transistors are warm so you may have to switch them a few times tor them to fire up

Makes sense. What doesn't makes senses is why it would not fire up after I had been using it for a few hours before.

EL woes.

Can someone please tell me what is going on here?

So yesterday I gave these a good wear test and all was good until I got home and noticed the right logo was dimmer than the left. When I pressed on it, it became brighter. I checked all the wiring and connections and found that the solder joint on one of the tabs was broken, so not making full contact. Why it worked at all is beyond me, anyway...

So I repair that and then I got this

Really dim.

Again pulled it part, no sign of any breaks. Swapped the batteries just in case power was an issue. Nothing, still the same.
Pulled out the multi-meter. Even though there is only 3V going into the inverters, the output measured 12.8VAC (is that right?) but only 0.23amps.

So I pulled the batteries out and gave it a "jump start" with a near new 9V battery and suddenly the light is super bright.

Put in the original batteries back in and this happens.

NB: The logo looks wonky because I have not glued it back in place yet.

WHY DOES IT DO THIS???
Same thing is happening with mine.. member i toldya crimp connectors.. my el panel, the solderable tapewire it has is held by adhesive.. and it kinda gets pulled.. im ordering the crimp connectors tonight.. ill show ya what i mean when i get them

I dont think its the inverter guys.. its the adhesive baking that the el has itself..that holds the strips you solder to.. i guess when we solder them it becomes warm and glue starts to move..then it isnt as stable as before and maybe cracks?? I think crimp connectors are our best bet..to have a solid el that wont dim

My EL has soldered tabs, not adhesive ones. And I even went to the trouble of adding a bit more solder to the joins.

Has anyone tried putting uv protection products? ? Like wipe new or renew protect??

The blue one is for normal plastics and rubbers...and black is for black rubbers and plastics..

This last a year.. if you see the video, if you apply enough of the blue hued one, it will lool transparent blue..and this in theory should protect it from yellowing for a year...

I take the file to a logo printing shop and they do it for like $0.40 or something and I get them to print it backwards so the ink can't scrap off.

You've never had any issues with them telling you it's a copyrighted image? I know some places will give you a hard time about that.

Nope. The first time was Harvey Norman and they just looked at me and Office Works just don't seem to care.

The EL sole look like more bluish on pics but it's the exact same color than strap logo.

Vormz did you paint under the soles or is that just how it came out from the gluing process? It looks great.

Thanks!
I put some Angelus white paint under before gluing, I wanted to have the screen used look :)

And you have done that :) Do you use the velcro on the collar to hold the strap when you wear these? If not, maybe you should unpick it? I like the way strap sits down. It does give it a screen used look even with the standard tongue.

Looking forward to seeing this.
