Just made up my new EL test kit for an all EL system.

This EL is white, so can't be used in the final system. What I want to test is exactly how long a system like this can run.

How bright are the "leds" in real life ???

Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk

I've never measured the light brightness even though I do have a meter and the software here to do so. The thing you don't want is to have the LEDs outshining the EL or so dim you can hardly see them in any light. You want them the same brightness as the EL. You also want both colour and brightness uniformtity across the 3 colours.

Here they are the same brightness as the EL (because they are EL) and the two real pluses are -
1. no single light can fail in the array
2. massively extended battery life.

The only mistake I made with this set up today is how I attached one of the stick on terminals. When I did my first test this morning, I placed tape under one of the adhesive strips, then figured it would be OK to not have to run a long strip for the 2nd connector. Big mistake because now you can see the patch where the soldering heated the EL sheet.

I actually like the stick on tape. It is quick and easy to use and easy to solder to. My idea with the white contact was good too. Be really good if I could find a green/blue one.

I'm confused. In certain circles, it is well known that 9V batteries have a very short run time (mAh/milliamp hours/milliampere hours) when compared to say, one 3.7V lithium-ion battery of a AAA size. Today's 5mm and 3mm LEDs are extremely energy efficient and take a lot less than 9 volts to run and only use up about 20 mA (milliamps) of current each (not to be confused with milliamp hours, totally different thing). EL runs off AC current, thus the need for an inverter. All that said, It's seems unlikely that EL would offer longer run times than LEDs. Has this been thoroughly tested to be proven conclusive, one way or the other, in regard to the V2 shoes?

Hey everyone, just an FYI about my tutorials. Seems that YouTube feels that my tutorials are a trademark or copyright infringement and have pulled a few of my videos. I'm not sure how I infringed on the trademark but it might be because of the replica nature. Not sure though.

Anyway, I may do other tutorials that won't show the NIKE logo's....but it may be a while, so please don't email me asking when. Thanks!

Maybe daylimotion will not be bothering as much as youtube does these days.

I think the plan here was to try it to find out if the design plan made things better or not - and since pics of the prototype was only put up today, I'd say testing is only starting. I wanted to try something like Cavx has done but didn't have the time to do it due to organizing a house. So thumbs up to him for trying. Hope it works. An all-white setup would be great for my idea to get a black/gold pair of V2's and remove that ugly gold MAG and splatter, repaint the MAG white and put a new white swoosh, with all white lights........ gotta get the black V2s first though ;)

One guy lets his shoes run completely flat from a full charge (I'm sure he had rechargeable, but not sure what voltage) and the EL kept running for a long time after the LEDs died out. This got me thinking an all EL set up would be the ideal set up. I only had time today to glue the filters in place and run some tests. Overall I am impressed with the results and sure the template needs some work to neaten it up, but the concept is solid.

I accidentally left a shoe on (EL strap only from a 3V volt set up) and it ran over 24 hours. Sure it was dimmer than the other shoe by the time I discovered it, but bright enough that the camera in my phone could still pick it up quite well.

Loving this idea! - Are you just using coloured filters for the 'led section'? does it work well?

Yes it does work well as the "LEDs" are the same brightness as the EL panels, just coloured. I've used 1.6mm polyprop for the cluster board and the filters are bits of plastic from coloured plastic A4 expandable folders that I found at the local Office Works for about 1 each. They just happened to have green, yellow and red folders.

You can buy just the flat 3.7v lithium batteries with protection built in and run them in series. Just like these rechargeables 9vs. The problem is they get considerably larger over 500mah.

If you run them in series it would multiply the voltage for a total of 7.4v If they are 500mah batteries then they would remain 500mah batteries.
Running in series multiples voltage and the MAH stays the same.

Yep that's why these Chinese 900mah batteries are bs because inside they're only using 500 mah lithium batteries.

Ok, before anyone goes chipping in for the $700 from gogoyeezy let me find out if the company will actually ship anything. I've made my 'test order' with them this morning. I'll update you guys when the shoes arrive (or if they don't but lets hope not). Then we can feel a little more secure about ordering from them.

Have you had any shipping confirmation yet or any word whatsoever on what you ordered?

To be clear, I was not necessarily referring to Cavx's new all EL setup. I know that a lot of people have replaced the LEDs in the soles with EL and was wondering if it actually gave them longer run times. Sounds like it does. If so, that's awesome and could make Cavx's new setup, extremely desirable.

Here is something promising from Gogoyeezy regarding my test order before anyone orders the $700 MAGs from them (even the shared money buy in)

Thank you for your order

We wish to inform you that your package was sent out on October.29th via

China post Standard Delivery and the Tracking Number is
(I deleted the tracking number for public posting)

Will post with details if anything actually arrives. :D
