Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I can but I would like to find photos not taken by NIKE, so that they are of true shoes and not the photoshopped production photos. I have noticed that NIKE made their promotional photos MUCH nicer that the real shoe. That is why I am trying to match my shoes to the photos taken by MAG owners.
Jedifyfe, when you do post your photoes, could you please provide a close up of the outside of the collar/cuff. I am curious to see how they have joined this.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Oh ya, what's up with that new circuit kingtheydon? Also, is it able to run on 9v?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I think you'll find it is, as long as you make the square wider and not deeper. The battery holder and inverter is tiny! The only other option is to install them into the sole of the shoe and run some wires up but then changing the batteries will be a *****.

I think the best idea so far would be to install kings amazing circuit and then modify the batteries in the sole to something rechargeable and have one switch control everything. We need to take it step by step, first get a full circuit that lasts more than 5 hours on a test bench then look at installing it into the shoes. Are those ps3 batteries rechargeable and be able t run longer than 5 hours with EL and the LEDs?

which battery holder and inverter are you planning to use? i posted up a list of various 3v inverters in one of my previous posts.

i did a measurement, and the hollow bit is only 4mm. i suppose you could make the rectangle cutout bigger.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

The flattened laces look awesome. So do you use a standard clothes iron or a special type of iron? Was the towel dry or wet?

Im working on a couple at the minute.

I have found one manufacturer that I plan to run things off 3V, They have sent me a load of samples so just waiting for them to come in.

Then there is another one that can run at 9V but they are being a pain sending me the IC's for that. You can only order them from the US it seems but apparently I can order them from the UK I just have to get hold of the EU area rep...he answers emails but NEVER his phones! Answer your phone dammit!!

With this circuit, are you planning on simply adding the tiny circuit board to the current circuit in the V2s then replacing the CR2032 with a larger rechargable battery? Would this still enable you to charge them from the little USB port on the back or would it likely need a new charge port?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

$250 + $50-75 materials + weeks of sweating and cursing vs $3000

I fixed it for ya ;)

All joking aside, they look superb and I would be proud to have a paid if the RDs weren't an option. There's one thing for sure, the RDs are soooo much more comfortable and the charging system is epic. Would I buy the RDs at this point in time over a pair of yours, probably not if i'm being honest :thumbsup

I don't however regret buying them as an investment, and that adrenaline moment of opening them for the first time and caressing them :lol

hi,
did you find out what inverter/battery holder to use for the strap yet?
which places can you get the mini 3v inverters from?

can't find any places in the UK!

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

question for jedifyfe

when you placed the 9v battery in the box space in the sole, when you put your eva sole insert back over this space, does the battery tend to move around much?

also, how big is the hole where you can place the wiring to the EL for soles?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Thanks for that Rich, appreciate your feedback mate.

Right the no resistor test went well... For the first two hours lol? Gt one led out, lucky it was a test led setup. I'm now going to use resistors again as I had no problem, will run the battery to death to see how long I get from this set up as at the moment that is the main thing.

hi
did you manage to check how long the batteries last on the 3v setup?

so 3v inverer, with new switch, EL strap, EL for soles, and 12 leds with a dc charging pin is possible?

If so, could you post up a wiring diagram in how to do this.

Whats the pros/cons of this method compared with the standard 9v battery method?

Either way, i plan to open up a few of the V2s and implement of these methods.

Just not sure which one to do at the moment.

Yeah hopefully.

Thats the plan anyway.

Its annoying as hell trying to order components. "please ring me to tell me your requirements"

My requirements are I want some bloody components. Now apparently he is out of the office till the 18th. Thing is if you live in the US you can order things online from the webstore fine. $20 for 10 pieces. If tempted to see if any of the US guys could order them then send them on (id pay of course) just so I can get them and not have to bugger around talking to sales reps and telling them what I want it to do.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

so here's the options im looking at for the v2s (as they are with existing ankle buckles). Both methods require opening up the soles to place the batteries in.

1.) The Taff83 Method
3v inverter, 3.7v PS3 battery inside the sole.
EL Strap
EL Soles
12 LEDS (not sure what resistor is required?)
New Switch at back of shoe behind existing v2 buckle,
DC charging pin at back of shoe behind existing v2 buckle

2.) (The Jedifyfe Method)
9v inverter, 9v single replaceable battery
EL Strap
EL Soles
12 LEDS (3 resistors)
New Switch at back of shoe behind existing v2 buckle,

and alternative method

3.) The Taff83 Method alternate (requiring new ankle buckle)
3v inverter, 3.7v PS3 battery behind the ankle buckle.
EL Strap
EL Soles
12 LEDS (not sure what resistor is required?)
New Switch at back of shoe behind existing v2 buckle,
DC charging pin at back of shoe behind existing v2 buckle

If anyone has any recommendations on the pros/cons of each method, feel free to share!
I would prefer to have everything behind the buckle, but if not, opening the soles like jedifyfe will have to do.

When using Taffs method of 3 volts you will need to wire the LEDs up in Parallel like so (this is where I confuzzled myself yesterday!)....Edited....Im giving up on work today and going home!

parallel101.jpg

But having 4 LEDS not 3. And using a 10 ohm resistor. That way each LED receives enough voltage to light it.

great thanks
so each row of leds, you do the same, then all the postive ends, solder together and all negative solder together?

On the subject of these lithium batteries, how safe will they be?
either in the soles or behind the ankle buckles?

I've read stories of explosions and stuff!

STOP! This diagram above shows a parallel connection, not a series connection. The resister is indeed in series. The three LEDs are parallel.
A series connection goes in on the +, out on the - and in to the next LED +.

Yep.

Follow the above picture for each row then join all the negatives together (3 of them) and then all of the positive ones (again 3 off them) but technically you will be linking the 3 resistor ends together then taking them to your power source.

Lithium batteries are fine..

U.N. official proposes cargo ban on lithium batteries

;)

YEah thats twice I have done that now ffs... I blame man flu.

Wire them in "parallel" as per the picture. Reason for that is if you wire them in "series" you wont have enough power to light the LEDS up if you do them in "series"

I've turned into a complete idiot this last week. I walked into the patio door at work this morning because I thought it was open :facepalm

Also when wired in series, if you have a bad solder (dry joint) or if one LED goes out, they ALL go out. In parallel, only the fault does not light.
