thanks bro, appreciate it! I flattened the laces by using a iron. But I put a wet tshirt over the laces to get the most amount of heat without damaging the material.

Wetting the tee shirt is an excellent idea. The tea-towel I used for the toe box slim got quite a bit darker by the time I was done due to it getting burned, so a wet cloth would only increase the steam factor.

When I was running the wires for the lights, I found that I could wiggle a plastic chopstick between the layers of the fabric. I also found that it could assist in separating the layers near the laces. Although I never pushed it all the way, I think you could get enough lift for the laces to all but disappear. The shoe might take on the slump look of the original 89 movie shoe.

Here id a pic without flash to show what they look like in natural light

You did a cut and glue toe slim? It has the "sock type" look to it which is cool.

Makes me want to break out a can of the grey vinyl dye I have here and add the lighter grey to my mid-soles. I don't have any turquoise enamel paint on hand though.

When you find somewhere that sells both the colours of vinyl dye we need, let us know please. :)

yeah I did a cut and glue toe slim, the only way you'll get a truly slim toebox. I really wanted that sleek look to it, the bulky toebox makes the shoe look so fake.

I did the steam method and got the toe flat but also got some wrinkles. I am OK with that because it too looks "sock type".

I had to buy the grey on line. Vinyl dye from places like SuperCheap is about $16.00 per can but they don't have a light grey. This was $20/can but I think that included shipping and I bought 6 cans.

I think the only way to get the right colour of green/blue will be to buy two cans and mix them. The problem with the vinyl dye is it dries really fast (like in 20 seconds) when sprayed, so I am thinking the best course of action here is to depressurize the can, then cut it open and pour the paint into another container and then mix it. $32 for paint to get the right green/blue sounds a touch much for little streaks, but then again, how much have I spent on the clear soles...over $1000 just on the molds now so all in the name of perfection.

I had to make a complete new mold for the right sole as it kept draining out before the resin would change from a liquid to a gel.

This photo was taken about 6 hours after the pour, and as you can see, the levels are all still topped up. Lets hope that when I de-mold these tonight that I have a pair of perfectly formed parts.

Then I can start making clear rubber ones.

Great work guys, have been reading this thread all day(instead of working :p) and have been mesmerized by the dedication and expertise of you all. I have always wanted to start a Back to the Future collection and especially own a pair of MAGS.
airair: I'd buy your suggested design if they agree to produce for you, let me know if it does go ahead, seems like the best option.
If not I will try and purchase the V2s as I do not like the new "V1.5" design.
In the meantime I'm on the lookout for other BTTF memorabilia/props so if anyone can give suggestions or point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Looking to start with Marty's cap(looks like Diamond select is only option nowadays) and hopefully then the MAGS, Hoverboard and Almanac.

Thanks all and keep up the good work, you are all are a credit to the community!
