Stunning, just absolutely stunning. From idea to having/making a pair, perfection. Can't wait until i see a video for these.

btw, does this mean you will be replacing the soles of your original V2 Mag with light blue ones?

I am on holidays this week, so day one was a revisit back to the clear soles and to get the positive pyramid pattern on the base. These will be masters that will be molded and then cast in clear. These are for my US9.5 and should fit the US10 as well. A new set of masters will be required for larger and smaller sizes. And I will be doing these in time. Each master is made from 5mm Perspex with the pyramid mat on the base. The oval parts are ready for molding now.

Jedifyfe, as you have both US9.5 and US10, could you please confirm the size of the clear soles are the same for me? A photo of the two soles pressed together would be awesome.

One goal (and you can see this on the 2nd last image) is that the pattern lines up on both parts.

On to the waffled sides tomorrow :)

Could someone suggest a more powerful resistor than the ones reccomended to dim the lights to be more accurate to the RD?

How many ohms are you using right now? If you know the amperage and volts (of the power supply), you can probably work it out using THIS ohms law calculator.

EDIT: And THIS resistance calculator is probably even better.

Lookin forward to seeing the final product cavx ! :cool

Thanks nosa. The challenge for today will be to create the side waffle part but also correct the dip at the heel that I have on my own pair. The outrigger sole should just blend in to the curve, not dip in like mine currently does.

I need a flexible putty style compound that I can take the impression of the waffle with, then shape and pour a resin or similar into to make the parts I need. Why do I suddenly feel this is not going to be an affordable exercise?

10 ohm 1/2 watt 5% I got that from a diagram from forever ago lol. Im also using the 9v rechargeable setup.

EDIT: Using the calculator and what I think is correct for the milliamps for the battery I got 50 ohms .72 watts. I searched that up and nothing like that seems to exist. Any help on this?

EDIT 2: I found an ebay listing for 47 ohms 2 watts 1%. Would this suffice?

I've found a fabric paint which looks pretty close to the colour of the RD soles underneath the splatter. it's a brush on water based fabric paint, so should be good for flexibility and not cracking and falling off (hopefully). I've done one thin coat on a V2 with yellowed sole and it looks better already, though it will need another. Will post photo when it's complete and dry. It's called 'Jaquard' Textile 137 Neutral Gray and is the best colour match so far.

That sounds good. How much lighter is the grey than the normal V2 grey sole colour?

The v2 grey soles are too dark compared to the RD soles, the neutral gray sounds like its a better fit to the RD.

How thick is that fabric paint? It will be interesting to know how well it sticks to the rubber.

A lot of the problem with paints is that they just don't stick well to rubber.
I think a lot of the shoe customisers use a leather dye or some other dye to recolour any rubber soles.

Acrylic paint like that angelus or similar is probably ok for foamy midsoles, but not for the harder rubber like the V2 grey soles.

Jedifyfe got his black pair's soles repainted, but not sure if that was painted or dyed.

The paint is very durable. I haven't worn them out yet, so I will report back on that later.

cool thanks.

it will be interesting to see how strong it will hold up.
I've not had much success with any paint sticking well to the grey rubber.

I usually do a test where if i can chip it by digging in with my fingernails and nothing comes off, then its very durable.

Standard Acrylic paints don't stick well to the grey rubber, neither does a spray primer like Tamiya. Didn't test the Valspar primer yet.

I didn't think paint adhesion to the rubber soles would be such a big problem!

well, as for how it holds up, nothing like a nice long wear out to test! I seem to recall Tamiya paint being for model kits, but perhaps there's different types now. If anyone is thinking of this, you'll need to use a fine-bristled brush and make sure to only do light coats so you don't get any brush marks. Second coat tomorrow.....

That is why they add pigment to the rubber for the pour. Nothing sticks well after.

And speaking of pouring, I did my first "pinky" pour today to make both a positive and negative of some of the pyrmaid mat as a tester for parts on my new clear sole project.

Thanks airair. Don't really know its proper name, but it is a PVC flooring product with the word "pyramid" in the title. These mats come in grey (as I posted), blue and a red. Hmmm, Marty's 2015 jacket anyone?

The only issue is I bought the last 2m of this stuff from the chain store that stocked it. I do hope that they get more in soon.

Do you guys recommend going a full size smaller?

I'm looking to pick up a pair of knockoffs and to do a few mods to make them presentable. Admittedly, I've only gotten through about 90-100 of the pages of this thread, but I'm light headed now. :D I'm gonna need some extra time.

Cavx has been an amazing help answering all of my questions in PM. I can't thank him enough! I've also really found Jedifyfe's tutorials on YouTube to be a great source of information to increase my understanding.

From what I read here some of you guys have gone full sizes down and I think others only half? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm a 12, so it's gonna be a bit hit and miss I think. I've either gotta go for 11 or 12 and pray. Well, most likely will be praying either way... :lol

Looking forward to joining you guys with this project!
