So today my EL sheet arrived and it was a MASSIVE dissapointment. The sheets have lots of ripples in them on the top laminate and as soon as I cut anywhere on the sheet they split apart and delaminate. Is there anyway I can fix this issue?

that is the backside of the el sheet.

the other side is what lights up.

i think you can safely remove that if you want or leave it on.

The front of the EL sheet has hard laminate over it, not soft so its ok.

Just solder to those ends and it will be fine.

Forgive me! but everytime I see your avatar pic, you look just like Jon Cryer!

Hi Cavx,

That ripple that you see on the EL sheet is the hard laminate on the front. I'm guessing something went wrong during the manufacturing process and this is what I got.

I did manage to salvage half of one sheet but the rest is unusable and I'm also gussing I'll have no luck with the seller but we will see.

If you want to come visit the set of 2 and a half men let me know! :p

Really? Can you post a pic of the ripples after peeling off the soft protective film?

I think this response was supposed to be to airair, but yeah, you do look like that actor and I could handle a trip to the Philippines :)

Ok, i'm trying to figure out.

If I use a liquid nails type adhesive which I think is supposed to be polyurethane based for wood instead of a contact adhesive like evostik impact or barge cement,

which is likelier to stick better to the rubber of the grey soles?

As I mentioned, I got two different results. One shoe of that DIY pair lifted and I had to re-glue it down. The other shoe stuck like nothing else and when I pulled them apart, the glue caused the leather to split (I had made an innersole from leather which was stitched to the uppers) and I had to grind the remainder of it out of the sole. I also used it on the toe of a pair of Jordan 8's that decided to let go and it has held strong to this day. It is just messy stuff (does clean up with acetone) to work with. But it is cheap and strong and flexible.

I would run some tests and see which method (tack verses wet) work best for you.

I'm having a scrooge moment and cant bring my-self to pay the $49 for shipping for the (for me £8) inverter's. The only part i need to get from the states. I found these on Ebay UK and wondered if one of you guys take a peek to see if they are good for the 9v setup are are an acceptable replacement for the CL-IPTC-9v-3-7FT ones.

9V Portable Driver - Tiny Waterproof Inverter for 5m EL Wire / 175squ cm EL Tape | eBay

Cheers

That at one is huge. Way too big to fit in the soles.

Yeah it looks like the one that came with my EL sheet, which as you say is massive.

According to the link in the shopping list the company that sells the inverters is out of stock until the very end of April.

How big is the one from coollight?

Yeah apparently today is the day they get more stock in. #goodtimingithink

Ok I'm hitting this to hard. Just found myself looking for the right shade of blue and grey wire so I can could code the electrics to the shoe. #gotitbad

For the type of glue issue we're having, I think I have a solution. Loctite super glue. Long neck multisurface. Its the one with the black cap. I used it on my shoes to slim the toe and when i tried to separate the fabric from the rubber it ripped some ruber off of the shoe. I had to yank pretty hard too. It's pretty damn strong. It also says it works on rubber on the package if you were wondering.

I used the exact same glue for my toe slim and it sticks very fast and very very secure.

So tonight I finished my EL straps, tomorrow I'm going to make a start on the soles.

I just learned that the company that makes the inverters does not ship to the Philippines which puts me in a hard situation. I'm kinda hoping a member here might be willing to help me out with shipping :)

Send me a PM. Maybe I can buy them and mail them to you from AU. Doing a clean out, and I found that I actually have pair of EL NIKE logos ready to go (thanks Taff83) and all I need is an inverter.
