Great Job !!
As Jedifyfe said, 100% better than out of the box.

Thanks. I did mess them up a little bit when you look at them from the top but they still don't look bad and I plan on buying another pair real soon and am going to try and get a slimmer toe like the real one's

Ok.... I have to bite the bullet and get a pair of V2's

I don't feel like reading this WHOLE thread to find the info..

So can someone point me to:

1. The safest place/seller who has not scammed anyone.
2. The cheapest selling price.

Thanks

I even think that any RD MAG owner who saw our modded pair would want them for themselves. I doubt we will ever have anyone pointing at our modded shoes and saying "those are fake". Only if you are trying to pass them off as real or sell them as real. Otherwise anyone would want the modded V2's.

Anyone who recognizes them as fake in passing will appreciate how good the modded replicas are, and anyone who doesn't recognize them as fake without being told won't even care that they're fake. Just seeing them in public would be a huge kick for any fan.

JEDIFYFE!!! You are killing me with those pics!!! You got the real thing and just casually post em?? There should be a toast to them! And epsecially if they fit you perfectly after the first fitting. I am both happy and sad at your genuine MAGs. *Cries in corner* One day one day I will have my genuines too!!

I bought 2 pairs from Karin Chen. Good communication and fast delivery. Not the cheapest though.

I was lucky enough (NOT TO OWN) to see in person a pair of RD. There's a store in my city that has the RD. It makes the shop great advertising and I can proudly go there with my pair of V2 without looking odd.
Anyway, my point is, since there are officialy only 2 pair in France, I can approach them anytime I want and that's pretty cool.
They are light off in a box made from glass, but they do look awesome, really.
The thing I noticed is that I am a nerd and totally crazy about those shoes since I talked to the owner, and I realize thanks to this community here I knew more about the shoes than the guy :D
I compared them carefully with mine, and I (personnaly) see a world of differences, but more than 9 people out of ten won't notice the differences, which makes me pretty happy. But I know I don't have the real ones and that's a feeling noone but you guys can understand.
Furthermore, people who aren't mad about the movie or the shoes (or both like us) sometimes ask "What the hell are those shoes?", and then I realize not everybody knows NIKE MAGs :D. I thought they were in school books now ! That's 2013 for god's sake ^^

I wore mine (jeans tucked in) to a 501st thing (I was wrangling because my TK is not ready yet and won't be for some time) on the weekend and the only people that got the shoes were 501st members who are my age. They liked them but no one else said anything at all. It was like no one noticed or no one cared, not sure. I was expecting at least the kids to make comment given they knew all the SW characters.

So anyway, there is a sci-fi thing on this weekend and I will bring the hover board with me this time. We've got RPF member sleepless coming in his "time machine" too (converted to the BTTF2 version with Mr Fusion), so it should be cool and geeky all at the same time :) I suppose I will drag out the NIKE tube bag as well.

I tested my 3v setup with a timer to see how long they lasted. They lasted 5 hours 43 minutes. Not quite what I was hoping for the main problem being the protection circuit cuts off the battery at 3.0v so it isn't over discharged even though the inverter and LEDS will work down to 2.7v. With a cheap Chinese 1800mah li-ion battery (which is really about 1200mah) They do charge fast though. I ordered some better batteries we'll see how those go.

So is the 3v method worth it? Not for 95% of people. Jed's 9v method is the way to go if you are looking for a more simple yet effective way to upgrade your mags. The 3v is only for people who want to plug the shoes directly into the charger like Nike's version. Other then that and slightly longer battery life there really is no benefit to doing the 3v setup. I still enjoy it but for most people it wont be worth the extra effort that you have to put in to safely wire the battery, I had so many wires coming out of my shoes I had to label them lol!

I had this feeling a couple of years ago when I bought my Marty McFly cap. I just think it is like that when you wanted something so bad and looked at it, talked about it, and finally comes to you, you think everyone will be so exited as you are, but no, everyone else is not.
I totally understand the frustration, but couple of weeks from now and you'll have forgotten.
I wear my cap like 100 days a year, and maybe 5 people will ask me about it. I really don't mind since it is a usual thing for me, so don't worry with you shoes bro, the essential part is you're happy with them ;)

I've done 3v setups on all my pairs. They run off 2 x 1.5v alkaline AAA batteries or 2 x 1.2v Minh rechargeable AAA batteries.

You can't get 9v inverters anywhere in Europe so that's why ive gone with 3v.

Im thinking about lion 3v setup like you've done. If you could share the wiring setup that would be great.

Still not totally sure on safety of li on!

I am working in photoshop making a photo showing actual components and how to wire them. Since explaining it is difficult. (Like the 9V photo that someone made a while back)

Li-ion are safe when used correctly, think about it just about every cell phone has a li-ion in them. And those we hold up to our face haha. When using a protection circuit and a proper charger (Yes, you have to buy another charger) you could probably get away with using the cheap little one that comes with the mags (I have used it multiple times) BUT I have a smart tenergy li-po charger I use now just so I can leave the shoes unattended and it's just a nice charger in general, I swapped the 1.3mm connectors to it and it was good to go. Using the other charger I felt I needed to watch the shoes the whole time they charged. It was a cheap charger and wasn't as constant as it should be. Simply put all you need extra is a protection PCB, most batteries have these, but some have a high voltage cut off like 3.5v and will kill your battery life. You want one with a cut off of 3.0v and a solid charger and your safe.

The issues I had with the 3V is that I believe the RD's use a 5V set up, so the 3V may be slightly dimmer and the 9V is slightly brighter. If you all want to save on space, just take the 750 mah 9v batteries apart. They can be MUCH slimmer...

There is no real difference in brightness with 3v or 9v whatsoever from my experiments.
The entire circuit of LEDs and el panels can even run off 2.4v as proven by me using 2 x 1.2v nimh AAA batteries.

I tested a 9v inverter (slightly big one) and there was no real difference in brightness. Both setups are super bright.

Im guessing that your rd mags are slightly less bright like you said probably because they custom built into the circuit some sort of limit to preserve battery life.

9v though is easier to solder though and you easily add a charging pin to the setup.

For 3v will have to do what modsbro has done with a li on battery and protection circuit for a non removable charging option.

Voltage is only important if you are lighting up a very large surface area hence why all the el sheets normally come with 12v.

Since we are only lighting up a small rectangle for the strap and small circular shapes for the soles the voltage required is minimal.

If I can get the thin 9v inverters easily I would use them more but they are not easily available.

Here's a 2011 pattern I've been working on, this was a test run I did with the fabric I got from an athletic shirt. Its not full size, it fits in my hand, I just used the sleeve from the shirt. This was before I tweaked the collar area. Its the grey fabric spray glued onto a section of a foamie. I don't have V2s, so I might just attach the upper to a sole that looks just like the Nike AF1 for a "fusion" look
