How large is the inverter and could it located to other parts of the shoe?
The inverter is a thin 3v inverter it works up to 4.2v (so a fully charged li-ion) Here is a link to the one I am using. And yes you could probably re locate it if you wanted to. It would be close to fitting in the stock ankle buckle.

I'll work on drawing up a detailed photo. There are a few bugs I am working out (mainly which battery you should use and which protection circuit) before I want to release a EXACT supply list. But this method is complicated mainly due to safe use of the Li-ion you have to do a bunch of extra steps that you wouldn't do with 9V. So this method isn't for everyone. But it may be more satisfying to some.
On a side note...has anyone thought of using a reed switch in a pair of their shoes? I think I may try it out. I know its not accurate but it would be cool to touch a fob on the shoe and have them turn on. Most reed switches are made from glass so most are fragile but they do make some that should work fine as long as they are in the ankle buckle.
