NIKE MAG Knockoffs

Absolutely gorgeous work, man!

How much time have you put into that bad boy so far? It seriously looks great.

What's the upper made from? 2mm of eva foam backed in 2mm upholstery foam? Whatever it is, it looks dead on.

Would love to see some WIP pictures if you've got them.

Keep up the awesome work.

Those are so cool! I wish Nike would make the MAG's like these instead of the MAG's that they put out.

thanks
well for this prototype Size 12 US, its 1.5mm eva craft foam (the package states 2mm, but i measure 1.5mm), then glued to that is simply 1mm sponge sofa upholstery foam.

this makes it very stiff and it keeps shape, but im trying to find a slightly thinner eva foam. 1mm would be perfect i think but if i cant find any, craft foam it is then.

I'm going to actually make 2 different versions. One which is a RD style version, and another which is a movie style version.

this weekend was the first time in a long while i touched these.
I think ive spent quite a bit of time fixing the template for the uppers over many weeks very slowly.
I remember when i did my first attempt, they looked ok, but something wasn't looking right.

So i went back to pictures and screenshots of the screen used shoes and compared them with the 2011 RD shoes from virtually all angles. These shoes really do look different depending on the angle, its quite awkward sometimes.

There's not much difference in the look between the movie and RD shoe. The main things in difference between the movie and RD shoe I spotted are the square bits near the uppers where the light strap wraps around and the type of fabric used, and stiffness of the uppers.

And lastly the front toe fabric section in the movie shoe has either got nothing underneath or it or a very thin spongy layer to give it the "sock" type feel.

for a RD style look, all you have to do is keep the EVA foam layer glued to the sponge layer, otherwise for the movie look, you just seperate the foam from the eva layer, and cut off the front toe section from the eva layer.

You get the perfect sock type feel then.
I'm still tweaking these.
I'm going to compare with the V2 knockoffs soon.

im probably going to cast these soles later on sometime once ive completed fixed the shapes for the EL lights in the soles. I'll probably use shoegoo to build up the areas again and to give the sides a nice flat look unlike how they are at present.

I used shoegoo for building up the toearea tapered lip on the soles,
this stuff is pretty damn solid once its dried, its just like hard rubber.
You can paint over it no problem if you wanted to.

i used the screen used and RD shoes screenshots to build up the toe area as much as possible using shoe goo. In some pictures in the sideviews below, because the shoegoo is clear transparent, it might not look right, but once its painted or moulded and cast properly, it should look fine.

Thanks to Punisher for giving the idea of shoe goo to build up the toe area, really works wonders.

Here's a comparison with the V1 knockoffs, so you can see what the modifications to the sole and uppers actually do.

I'll take some pics with the V2s when i get them shortly.

Yeah his idea works well. I ended up with this when I tore my leather upper off the soles. Because I had used that ribbon and shoe go to hide the ugly stitching, it formed the perfect mold and bonded really well to the sole. I just had to trim it and it is now ready for the next project.

How tall are these airair? They will grow about 3/4 once the cuff goes in. They look amazing.

My suggestion for the clear soles is not to remove your black ones, rather build them up to get the shape you want and cast that. The out-rigger sole (Jedifyfe's term) uses allot of rubber, so you will want as much to start with as you can get.

After seeing airair's blilliant work and discovering I am all out of grey mesh for build 3, I decided to re-work 2. And here it is in 3D :)

I see, I don't really like them though x)

I'm not a big fan of them either :confused

For airair, check out what happens when two parts are sewn together and reversed.

This is the same angular pattern seen below. Something to be aware of with your build.

I absolutely love these. Please keep up the amazing work!

Emma, I say the grey splatters would be best to break the contrast between the black and white I feel like grey would bring it all together. I like the laces white, it gives them a cartoon shoe type of look. Good luck!
