NIKE MAG Knockoffs

Just as a fun little exercise while we wait, I put this together for us nerds, using one of the images graciously provided to us by DinoIgnacio.

It's a scaled comparison between the sole of the RDs and the sole of the V1 K-Mag.

Of note: The K-Mag sole is longer...even though it is a size SMALLER than the RD. (K-Mag Size: 8; RD Size: 9) So it would appear my hypothesis about length was incorrect, it seems to be sole WIDTH which is the most important dimension to achieve the overall look. I would have never guessed that, and it's why I owe Dino a drink! :lol

I'll post any other findings I might make.

-Nick

I agree, we do need something else to shift our focus off the current state of things.

Nick, yes the width becomes very important and I (over 2 revisions) added a full inch to my patterns to get them to 'sit right' and remain that way when I put my foot inside.

Taff83, this is looking good. How will you close the gap on the seam? In one of my cloth over foam attempts, I did the same construction method (sewing around the foam first) and when it came time to stitch the uppers together, the end result was not as smooth as I had hoped. I can post or email a photo if you like.

This is where I am with my project.

This is like revision 11 or something like that and hence the new shape to the collar. Because I am building a wearable FX pair, I will have straps that pull down, not elastic. I also have an idea for elastic tensioned straps as well.

This pair is fully lined and was assembled by the following steps:

1. Cut out the main outside shell [2 pieces].

2. Stitch these parts together and turn inside out so the stitching is on the inside.

3. Attach the back of the liner [you could so this part as a single piece if you want] and stitch that over the top of the outer. Again, its seam will be on the outside. No NOT stitch the front seam yet.

4. Fold the flaps over and pull the seam out tight. If making this shoe out of cloth, now is the time to insert the foam and the foam seams could be joined - ie having a foam form that free stands like my blue foamied, but with out a sole.

5. Attach the inner sole to give the shoe its final shape.

This is the left shoe and the right is partially stitched. I'll hopefully get that done in the next day or so.

my friend and I were discussing getting together and buying a real MAG, and I was thinking of just getting these, but with all the recent commotion regarding the knockoff. Should i take him up in his offer or just wait until 2015 and get the ones that will probably come out then. Ohh man NIKE MAG dilemmas got me scratching my head. LOL first world problems. But seriously what do I do?

if you want to wear them, get the knockoffs. if you want to display them, id still get the knockoffs. the 'real' ones arent what there hyped up to be imo. I resold mine cause I felt that, on thier own as an item, they were not worth the $, specially since you cant wear them out anywhere and not destroy the resale value instantly.

I wouldnt wait tho, I doubt nike will do anything in 2015 cept another auction with sky high prices. like it or not, these here are prolly the closest well get to an affordable general release. nike would just have a random factory in china make em anyhow, not a whole lot of difference when you get right down to it.

besides, how do we know that marty wasant wearing these knockoffs 3 years from now anyway? :lol

Because his shoes (at the time of lace up) are straps, not elastic and because his shoes look way cooler :)

If NIKE do a 'general release' of the MAG, it will most likely be a plastic shoe like their HYPERDUNK.

As for power laces? Well who knows if that is even possible. I am working to make an FX pair and if I can, attach a motor. The size of the current motors available [with enough guts to actually pull the straps tight] make the shoes unwearable.

Thanks Cavx! I will hand sew them together after the foam inserts are stuck together, it will be two hand stitches; inner and outer fabric.

Your method is basically the same as mine, I insert the foam like a sock then fold so the two sides meet and then I will glue them down and hand stitch the fabric, trying to explain this process to a polish seamstress was not easy lol..

Oh and cut out a nike swoosh as I had 15 mins to spare, what you think of this colour of red? It's a bit lighter than my other red parts but it works I think? "Shrug"

Oh putting on a second layer of elastic so the ribs stick out more, the darkness of these you can't see it clear enough, easy fix :)

I've heard from a couple different sources that there is another BTTF/Nike event in the works. The Time Machine Restoration Facebook page even made a mention of it. I have no idea when or what it will be about but it's something to consider.

You're selling these, right? :love

Bad news fellas. I originally bought my v2's from chinashopsell.com and I received the email saying these would ship in 2 days, I haven't heard from them since and when I went to their site I got hit with this....

OK. It just look from that photo that you had already stitched the two halves of each part together.

One thing I am loving about this mesh is that a stitched double layer (that has been turned inside out) become rigid enough to free stand without the need for foam. My almost complete upper is still under 150grams.

I think the red looks good. The same black as the strap would look hot too.

Jeez! We are getting so close to the ship date! I just want my pair!
Don't we all so unless your prepared to fold under this BS price hike, you [like the rest of us] will have to wait that bit longer.

First it was FU NIKE!
Now it is FU China!

I am hoping shoesbagonsale stays strong and ships without incident.

Given so many seem to owned by the same owners, why would one not cash in on this deal? Surely they monitor their competitors sites (if they are actually competing).

Crazy, have any of you actually had Vicky CALL you to confirm your order? She just called me after I received my payment notice (I ordered a pair at lunch today). She said they would be shipping this weekend.

If true, that's awesome.
